  • ISU makes a Top 10 list..

    "Streaks to watch this season"

    they come in #9 with...
    "Illinois State...three consecutive NIT invitations....
... the Redbirds may have to settle for the NIT once again"

although it's not listed, they do discuss the Northwestern streak of 72 straight seasons without an NCAA bid
(actually it's longer than 72 but they didn't hand out NCAA bids more than 72 years ago...)

Speaking of Kansas- ESPN posted a long article today about the repercussions of the UNI win over Kansas last March. It's an interesting read-

Ali Farokhmanesh's improbable dagger against No. 1 Kansas was perhaps the defining image of an unforgettable NCAA tournament. At Northern Iowa, it's meant so much more.

speaking of Kansas also -- Bill Self gives a nice compliment to mid-major coaches....

        he says they are...
"The best recruiters in the business .....
They do a great job evaluating their talent level when they (players) are 16, 17 and projecting them out to when they are age 21.

...that mid-majors have done a better job than many high-major programs in
recruiting and landing those hard-to-define-but-still-talented tweener players.."

In a way his comments are a bit self-serving..because what he's really saying is...
"I don't need to work hard to land the top recruits, and I don't need to find
the hidden gems because they wouldn't even get garbage time at Kansas..."

Last week, Bill Self stopped by the Metro Sports/KC Prep Invitational in Kansas City, where he and Kansas State coach Frank Martin (and a bunch of other Division I basketball coaches) watched a handful of talented prospects in the comfort of their home state.
