NIU Center not getting release

Here's a case that differs from some of the others we've seen recently...
and it will impact Bradley since we should be playing NIU this year..

where a kid who is ALREADY graduated, but leaving and transferring...
BUT this kid is NOT going to be immediately eligible because the school he's leaving is refusing to release him from his scholarship.

I don't see the advantage that NIU gains from not having granted his release by now. It sounds like the player has checked out in his mind. It'll become a wasted scholarship.

We always hear that scholaships are on a one year renewal basis when they are dropped. It shouldn't just be a one way street if the player has lived up to his end of the bargain (graduating).

I wonder if his planned school that offers a master's degree in Theology has anything to do with it or if it is just the principle.

the scuttlebutt is that this is purely vindictive, as the coach was apparently taken completely by surprise
late in the summer when his best & pretty much only returning big man suddenly says he leaving and wants to play elsewhere
There's talk that the whole scenario was brought about by at least one other school that had tampered (a virtually unprovable offense)
by calling Kowal and setting this all in motion...

Now Kowal won't play anywhere due to further NCAA action!!
SLU folks were hoping they'd have him... but ?? Poss. someone tampered in this thing and affected his withdrawal from NIU and move to SLU??
