  • Sean Harris

Would it be asking to much for the folks over at the PJ Star to do a follow up story on Sean Harris? Where is he, how is he doing, what are his current plans regarding BU? This is the stuff they should be doing that fans and folks that buy their product would appreciate, or at least I would!!!!!! I have always thought this is an area they do a very poor job of.

As I understand it, it's very difficult to find out much about the young missionaries when they are are out of the country. The families and church take it seriously and it's not something they publicize or promote in the media or talk much about. Since Harris has not signed, it is not possible for anyone at Bradley to give any info either.

I understand why Bradley cant say anything but I think the Star could do something. And this is not just about the Harris deal, I have always felt that the Star could do a much better job following stories about kids associated with Bradley basketball. When a high school kid signs with BU early why not put his games in the Star, how about a box score and maybe a write up on him every now and then. We have guys on here that do a little research on our kids and post it. I may be alone here but I think the PJ Star has always missed the boat when it comes to things associated with Bradley mens basketball.

You are not alone here, friend. I agree completely. I think it's just "lazy journalism" on the part of PJS.

When these kids go on their missions they work pretty much from sun up to sun down. I believe they are only allowed one call home per week. That makes contact pretty difficult.

Two of my best friends returned from their missions a couple years ago. They are basically cut off from everything and everyone except the town they are staying in and the people they are with. The only form of communication they have are letters that they can write to friends and family. They are allowed to phone home on Christmas and Mother's Day, but those are the only two days from what I understand.

The positive thing is that everyday they have time set aside for working out, and on sundays they are able to get together with surrounding missionaries and play pickup games. So expect Sean Harris to come back in better physical shape with his basketball skills intact.
This is just the tip of the iceberg...

I've always said this as well. One wonders if they are just trying to save money by not investing in active journalism or just lazy.

Makes sense...... But couldn't they still do a story by talking to friends and family?

                    And so it is......

By all indications, Sean Harris, the 6-foot-7 forward from California who is one year into a two-year Mormon mission to Honduras, is still planning to come to Bradley beginning in the 2011-12 season.

                      Sean Harris

I see mormon missionaries at the Rexburg library fairly often. They catch up on e-mail and news back home. They are extremely isolated from their families and have a chance to grow up. I spent the last two weeks in Colombia and I would expect that Sean is learning lessons abott poverty and hard work. The PJS would probably need to get the mission address or Sean's e-mail to get a little info from him. Missionaries have a strong sense of duty (very strong). I fully expect to see Sean Harris on the Hilltop. I will eat my words but I expect that Sean will be a "Knuckles" kind of player. All in all when was the last time Coach Korn was wrong about a player? Bradley just does not suceed without a Yuba butt on the squad..

Why did I think Sean would have three years at BU? And O love the comments about Walt, he is going to be a stud.
