Here's an interview with Dodie's little brother Brandon Dunson, who's at Arizona State...
he talks a little about the video of his dad dunking...
Some excerpts.......
Incoming basketball point guard transfer Brandon Dunson ...said the Sun
Devils will be more athletic than he anticipated..
Q: "What's pick up been like?"
Brandon Dunson: "It's real good. Everyone is pretty athletic and skilled. It
makes me excited because you can see the potential of the team."
Q: "Is it like you expected?"
Brandon Dunson: "It's pretty much like I expected but I didn't know we were
going to be as athletic as we are. We should be a pretty good team once the
season comes along.
Q: "What do you think about the freshmen?"
Brandon Dunson: "I think all of the freshmen have the ability to contribute.
Once you get into practice it becomes a different thing but they've all
showed they have the ability to play and contribute. I think it comes down
to more mentality than ability though."
Q: "What do the coaches want you to do between now and when practice starts?"
Brandon Dunson: "To keep improving on all facets of my game and they want
me to be a leader out there. They want me to have leadership because I'll be
a senior next year and Ty and Jamelle will be gone so they really want my
leadership."
Q: "How are you dealing with the heat?"
Brandon Dunson: "It's not but not as bad as I expected it would be. You get
used to it quick."
Q: "Have your expectations changed for the season seeing the pieces you have to work with?"
Brandon Dunson: "I always thought we were going to be good but it just
reassured me about that and everybody works hard. That's the good thing
about it."
Q: "How are classes?"
Brandon Dunson: "I have an online course now, it's good. I had a sports
management class last session."
Q: "How's your family doing, will they be out there a lot?"
Brandon Dunson: "Yeah they'll come out a couple times. When I come out
here for good in the fall semester my brother is going to come out with me
and then my parents will come at the end of August but they're going to try
to make a few games. It will be a lot of travel for them."
Q: "Everyone's talking about the video of your dad dunking. It's pretty crazy, tell us about that?"
Brandon Dunson: "We were just in the gym the day before I came out here
and we were just in the gym messing around. My brother has always wanted
to get video of my dad dunking so he brought a camera that day. We'll play
open gym at home with college guys and my dad will play and do well and
sometimes he'll kill us actually. We put something together for my dad and a
couple of his friends and I guess it got out. ESPN got ahold of it and
contacted us and wanted to put it up."
Q: "Tell us more about your dad?"
Brandon Dunson: "My dad's 51, he turned 51 in April. He's a recreational
director at a local center for basketball so he stays around the kids and he's
real active every day. That's how he stays in shape, he just runs with the
kids. He played at Parkland Junior College then he played summer league with
the Washington Bullets and Sacramento Kings but other than that not really."
Q: "When'd you beat him in 1-on-1 for the first time?"
Brandon Dunson: "Actually the first time was probably only about three years
ago. It felt great to finally get it. I remember the game, it was actually going
into my senior year of high school. It was a close game to, I drained a
3-pointer over him to win."
Speaking of Arizona State -- that's where Hersey Hawkins' son Corey Hawkins will be a freshman next year..
Corey was apparently recruited by Kentucky's John Calipari AFTER he had committed to Arizona State!
The evidence is this interview in which Corey says...
"Q: Did you ever second-guess your decision?
"I wouldn't say 'second-guess.' (Kentucky) coach (John) Calipari actually showed some interest
and when he's interested it's kind of hard to just ignore it. But I wouldn't say I second-guessed
anything, it was just kind of in the back of my head."
Q: How far did the Calipari interest go?
"I don't know a lot about it because my high school coach shielded me from a lot of it. I guess
he just called, but he didn't want to pursue anything unless I de-committed and I wasn't ready
to give up something so good for something that could possibly not be as good."
