This is a minor attempt to get teams to schedule up. Scheduling up helps everyone in the conference and scheduling poorly hurts everyone in the conference. I'd like to see the conference go back to a monetary penalty for poor scheduling, but this is at least a start. Good to see that the conference leadership is starting to do something on this issue...

Since SIU has a higher average non-conference SOS ranking then Bradley over the last 5 years, are we to assume that ISU and Bradley are the teams that you speak of?

I don't think it's even close in comparing BU and ISU (red) scheduling - especially in the past 2 or 3 seasons.
There have been a couple cupcake games for BU, but only to get to play better competition in tournaments.

I think we remember SIU as to having scheduled poorly last season - they've done fairly well before that though, and I think this season, they've gotten some quality teams on their non-conf. schedule already.

Poorly doesn't begin to describe last years schedule for SIU but it was a deviation from the norm. And no, I was making a joke, Bradley's scheduling is really nothing like the turds.

This was probably a compromise. I'd hope that there was a discussion around if you schedule like this again next year there will be monetary ramifications.

I think people are overestimating the effect of this rule. No one is going to change their scheduling philosophy because of this. ..

I disagree wholeheartedly....there is no doubt that since this was a decision MADE BY the university presidents and AD's and
they are doing it along with the commitment to schedule better...
read Doug Elgin's comments...sounds like if any school fails to upgrade their scheduling he's not aganst even more action.......

I don't see it making a big difference. The article says there would be five changes over the past 11 seasons. If not being considered for the NCAA tournament because of SOS didn't change any philosophies, I doubt this will.

If the rule was implemented a year earlier, Bradley would have fallen to the 6th seed and played ISU on Friday night.

and therefore will try much harder to schedule better....
thus the rule will have one of the biggest impacts of any rule change in memory...
it'll stimulate the Valley members to schedule better. I like it, and wish it had been in place for the past 5 years!

It would have been the same result (6th seed) with an ISU-like schedule. 142 & 312 are both behind Indiana State's 82

The one argument I can buy is that this rule could be a precursor to more rules regarding non-con scheduling. But my question would be, if more action is coming regarding SoS, why not take those right now instead of taking this half-step?

It's ambitious to think this rule alone will change scheduling philosophies. But if there's an initiate to schedule better within all the schools, it will happen, but it won't be because of this specific rule.
