As expected. Would have been a nice situation for the Bulls to have two great shooters in Reddick and Korver, but the Magic have decided to overpay to keep Reddick.
The Bulls next target might be Ronny Brewer, another of Henry Thomas' clients. He is not nearly as good an outside shooter as Redick, but is a little taller and is a better defender.

The Bulls should be able to get Brewer at a salary much lower than they offered Redick ($20 milllion for 3 years), and that would leave room for a free agent big man such as Brad Miller, who they were hoping to be able to retain.

Nice to see Orlando panic and overpay Reddick. Bulls front loaded the offer and by matching Orlando is in Luxury tax and stuck with a guy who is not a rotation player making rotation money.
Rockets did the same thing in matching for Kyle Lowery, paying starting money to a bench guy.
It is silly how much dumb money is thrown around in the NBA.

In addition to having to pay Redick way more than they thought they would have to, they will have to pay an equal amount toward the NBA "luxury tax", since they are already over the salary cap. For a team that is losing money, that's a tough decision to make.
I think the unwritten rule that NBA teams must have at least one or two white players on their team enables average to slightly-above-average white players like Reddick to be over-paid.
Don't get me wrong, I think Reddick is a pretty good player but he is probably being over-paid when compared to a black player of similar ability.

Who would you compare to Reddick?
How about we compare Kyle Lowery and Reddick both from the 06 draft class and first round picks.
Lowery just got a 4 year(last year team option) at 24m = 6m if that last year is played
Reddick just got 3 years at 19m = 6.3m
A better comparison probably will be Brewer but he has not signed anything.
The NBA is a lot of things and having white players likely is an unwritten rule, but I dont think they overpay based on color of skin, they are equal opportunity over payers.

It's official, the Bulls sign Ronnie Brewer for 3 years, $12.5 million, which is a bargain compared to the price Redick would have cost. This gives the Bulls a little more flexibility to sign a couple more players.

I agree the Brewer is a good signing. He is only 1 season removed from being a 14ppg scorer. He has a reputation for being a strong defender, and at 6'7 is very long...and can guard the 2 or the 3. A very nice signing for the Bulls!
If I was the Bulls I'd keep a bit of cap space open for next year's FA class. Carmelo Anthony will be opening himself for bids. I'd expect to see him though head to NY.
