  • Taxpayers have to pony up $33.5 million just to keep Pacers in Indy

That's $33.5 million MORE...since the taxpayers have been helping to support the privately owned sports teams for YEARS!!

The folks who run the city of Indianapolis & Marion Co., have voted to bribe, I mean pay the extortion fee to the Pacers...
$33.5 million just to keep them from leaving the city like the Baltimore Colts did when they bolted to Indy..

This payoff is being hailed as...
"...a multimillion-dollar bailout of a professional sports team and its billionaire owner"

and the explanation given to citizens is this...
"The mayor has said we need to protect the taxpayer and we need to protect the tax base"

But in reality they are mainly protecting only the folks who run the Conseco Fieldhouse* and the few hotels and vendors who cash in on the NBA business.

    * Conseco Fieldhouse is municipally owned and operated and is already costing taxpayers plenty of $$ - and operating at a deficit of roughly $45 million per year (loss)!!
Of course the positive economic impact is beneficial for many people and the government people love the tax revenue generated, but overall it costs way more than the taxes generated..
The vast majority of people in Marion County never see a penny of revenue from the Fieldhouse and have never been there and don't care...it's helpful to the few but supported by everyone through their taxes. It's just another example of the incredibly complex involvement that various governments have in every aspect of life, and in the end, the hard working taxpayers all foot the bill having to give up a huge percenatge of everything paying bundles to the government in the form of taxes.
What ever happened to a private guy operating a private business, privately, and the government staying out of it??
I wish someone would offer me a huge bundle of money NOT to move my business out of the city where I am!!!

    Self preservation at work!

If the local city/county gov didn't do anything, and the Pacers ended up leaving Indy, would local politicans up for re-election get booted out of office, or, would their campaign platform of "saving" $33.5M in taxpayer money by letting the Pacers bolt get them re-elected?

Unfortunately you can't answer this with your heart, answer with your head!
