Ragland must be pretty good then. I would think he'd need to adjust to NCAA ball though, while DW has a year under his belt.

I'm in your camp. Very rare does a JUCO come in right away and makes a difference at the NCAA. It usually takes 1/2 a season and then not until March do they make the impact most fans thought they would.

I don't think there is much question that Demetric will start the year as the starting PG (unless Ragland is just unstoppable). Now Ragland will have his opportunity to take that from him at some point. And given the reports about Ragland it COULD happen. Just have to wait and see. Clevin Hannah adjusted pretty quick. Ragland sounds alot like a Hannah type of a player, but a little bigger.

Truthfully, if Ragland can adjust fairly quickly I think we will see both Rag and D-Will on the floor at the same time with Murry moving to the wing.

Clevin Hannah did a pretty good job his first year He averaged 11.2 PPG and 4.3 APG while shooting 40.5% 3FG. His 2nd year numbers were only a little better (12.0, 4.7 and 42.5). The biggest area of improvement for Clevin was his defense.

Coming in it was known Clevin was mainly a shooting PG who handled the ball and passed fairly well. He didn't have the speed or strength to be a penetrator. From watching a couple juco tournament games last year and from pick-up game reports, it seems Ragland is a good penetrator, passer and finisher. Doesn't shoot a lot but is accurate when he does. He's a little bigger, stronger and quicker than Hannah. That doesn't necessarily translate to being better, however. Ragland has the advantage of playing with a team that will have an extra year of experience and much greater depth. WSU only lost Hannah (and Kenny Manigault who played sparingly last year), but added Ragland, juco's Ben Smith (SF) and Ehimen Orupke (C) and redshirt frosh Jerome Hamilton (PF) and Tyler Richardson (SG/SF).

From a team stand-point, I expect to see Ragland and Williams split minutes roughly 60/40 (percent). Should get the usual production from Murry and hopefully more from Kyles at SG. Better depth and scoring at SF (Hatch, Smith, Richardson). Similar depth at PF (Durley, Blair, Ellis, Hamilton) and much greater depth and flexibility at C (Stutz, Durley, Orukpe, Hamilton).

The following year should be interesting, losing most of our forwards to graduation (Hatch, Durley, Blair, Ellis).

Clevin Hannah was a great PG - and I think some in the Valley didn't give him his due...
            who's gonna take his place?

It'll be a combo of Demetric Williams, Ragland and IF ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY Murry is OK at point. Although Murry is much more useful at SG or wing. But he can play point sparingly. Williams will be a better point guard than Hannah IMHO. I love Hannah, but given that Williams has more time with the team and seeing his skills develop some late last year....he's gonna be a very good PG in the Valley.

Here are the "Prouty Ratings" for the 2010 sophomores that averaged 10+ minutes/game as freshmen......

Prouty Ratings explained: I came across this a couple years ago. Just something that takes into account total production as well as minutes played and rolls it all up into one nice picture where each player can be numerically-compared.

I will also include the Adjusted Ratings, which will give Win Effect only 10% of the total. Offensive Efficiency, Total Offense, and Possessions Gained each account for 30% of these adjusted ratings. This change doesn't have a huge overall impact, but it does help guys who shine on a team that's not doing well. It also helps to offset the pull that great teams have on average players.

                  Prouty Ratings
                  .347 Jackie Carmichael
                  .342 Colt Ryan
                  .337 Jake Koch

Exactly. The poise and confidence he had as a freshman makes me think that even with the loaded back court we have this year that he could be a major contributer. I cant wait to see what he can do the year after when our back court thins out a bunch.

I know I've mentioned him before, but I think that Creighton's best sophomore might be a guy that didn't even play last year; Gregory Echinique. His size and strength is not something regularly seen by big guys in the MVC. He won't be eligible until after the first semester is over, so we won't get a chance to see him much before conference games start.

He won't be eligible until after the first semester is over, so we won't get a chance to see him much before conference games start.
I'm intrigued to see him in action. Should be fun watching him and Stutz go at it for the next couple of years.

His size and strength is not something regularly seen by big guys in the MVC. From what I have seen of him in video and read about him he could be a REAL force in The Valley. I think he could potentially be the best big man in the Valley in his first year.

And I agree with shockerfan. I see some real nasty battles between him and Stutz. Should be fun watching.

                                Jackie Carmichael
                                Colt Ryan

                                Seth VanDeest

                                Honorable Mention: Gene Teague
All these guys will only get better IMO, but I wouldn't select these 5 as the top 5 impact players for 2010-'11.

Wragge and Carmichael were impressive when they played us in the reg. season.
