Drake basketball: Frank Wiseler sustains freak injury

Wiseler injured the achilles tendon on June 17, had surgery June 21, and is now back in his home country of Luxembourg recovering. Wiseler, a 6'2" junior, averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 assists in his first season for Drake last winter, and started 15 games.
Wiseler was projected to be Drake's starting point guard this fall. He will miss 4 to 6 months, and likely will not be ready for the start of the season. Now Drake is left with 3 first-year players to man the point guard position- redshirt freshman David Smith, junior college transfer Kurt Alexander and true freshman Karl Madison

This isn't good for the MVC. Drake wasn't going to be a powerhouse, but this definitely hurts them for non-con.

It is terrible news for Mark Phelps, the team, and the Drake fans.

But I can't help but think maybe it's time for everyone else to have to play through season-ending injuries to key players. Maybe Bradley can have one season without such debilitating injuries.

        not how I see it...
I take it he's saying it's time for BU to have an injury-free year

Bradley fans have been told many times that injuries happen to everyone, and that it all evens out over time (which isn't true anyway). Bradley has had more than their share, so it's time for them to get some better luck.

But I can see how a BU-hater would want to make something out of what was said that is 180?° opposite of what was meant.

I don't see it as terrible news, although it's certainly not good news. Wiseler is far from being the most talented point guard on Drake's team, but he is the only one with previous D-1 experience.

Saw Alexander and Madison play a few weeks back and I think Drake has some solid PG depth. One of those two will step up and be solid IMO.

Ohio State recruit Lenzelle Smith also out up to 6 months with ligament injury to left wrist.
He fell in a "preseason practice" according to reports and has been nagged by the injury since May - they were counting on Smith to help replace the loss of Evan Turner! This comes right on the heels of forward Nikola Kecman going down with a torn ACL and being out 6 mo.
