NCAA is contemplating a new rule that will PROHIBIT college coaches and recruiters from offering scholarships
to any recruit earlier tahn July 1 of the summer before his junior year in high school.
This is obviously to prevent the proliferation of the recruiting of very young kinds - even junior high kids...
BUT -- if the rule passes, then whatever date the ruling takes effect will almost certainly provoke
an enormous flurry and frenzy of offers before that date being given to get the offers in ahead of the deadline....
.....so that you can later continue to recruit the kid....knowing that of course any offer can also later be retracted....
It'll be interesting to see what happens...only a handfull of coaches have gone full tilt after really young kids...
..like Bruce Weber, Tim Floyd, Billy Gillispie, Greg McDermott, etc...but it's mostly been the BCS guys,
so I really doubt we will see new rules aimed mostly against them.
Obviously one issue is how to police such a rule, since offers are always made in private, and often kept ultra secret...
BTW -- today (July 6) is the beginning of a 10-day evaluation period where coaches can attend events and vigorously recruit.
There is another such period later in July........
