      Manual 2012

Not surprised those 2 kids have scholarship offers from SIU already..one of their assistant coaches down there has connections everywhere and he is also the one who almost took donovan stewart from us to West Virginia...from what I have heard thru the grapevine as well is that they have anywhere from 30-50 division 1 coaches in their open gym's. Does anyone know if open gym's are open to the public down there? I would like to go see this for myself.

I would like to know who those 30-50 division 1 coaches would have been who were down to look at the Manual kids, and probably the NCAA would like to know, too.
Since the NCAA recruiting calendar shows that the period from April 1- July 5 was mostly a recruiting "Quiet Period", it appears they were probably violating NCAA rules. There has not been an "Open Evaluation" period when coaches could have been off-campus to recruit, and in "open gyms" to see kids since prior to March 1, and "open gyms" didn't begin until well after that.

Starting today, the Evaluation Period opens up again for D1 coaches.

A "Quiet Period" is defined as follows-
        Quiet Period
The college coach may not have any in-person contact with you or your parents off the college's campus. The coach may not watch you play or visit your high school during this period. You and your parents may visit a college campus during this time. A coach may write or telephone you or your parents during this time.

I have been to a couple open gyms, and I have never heard of one that restricted people from watching. So I am sure you would be welcome to go watch. There are people there even when it is not open eval period, and I am sure some of those who attend open gyms around the country do report back to D1 coaches, but they are not supposed to be there as an agent for any school.

I'm not surprised that Stokes got an offer, but the offer to Roddy is a bit puzzling.

Unless SIU projects him to play the '3' at the next level, I'm not sure why they would offer him at this point in his high school career. He plays a bit taller than his height of 6'6 due to his length, but I can't imagine him getting a lot of minutes in the front court. I would have expected colleges to take a wait and see approach with Jacoby in case he grew a couple of inches. I'm very happy for him, though, as he is a good kid who always gives 100%.

Stokes is someone who has taken unofficials to Iowa and Illinois, so this could just be the beginning for him. Landis Farmer took an unofficial visit to Ohio State last fall and Isiah Duncan is probably the best shooter of the bunch. 6'9 Kevin Jordan will be at his third high school in three years and is a bit of a project. He started at Woodruff last year as a Sophomore and would give Manual a true '5' if he can crack the rotation. It's too bad Romeo Johnson moved to Mississippi, as he would have added to what is already an amazing group of soon to be Juniors for Manual.

Manual players Jacoby Roddy and Jeff Stokes helped lead the Illinois Wolves U16 team to a championship at an AAU event in Highland, Indiana this weekend-

Bradley coaches were among over 100 college coaches there for the event.

to the article, Joe Kelch will not be recruited by any school for Basketball. He's a much better Baseball player. He's played Varsity for four years b/c his dad put him there, he's actually more accurate for three from the half court line than he is from just beyond the arc! lol He's mediocre at best. Moses, Sparkman, Trau, and Terry made the EP team last year, not Kelch.
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

Jacoby Roddy is mentioned in the following blog:

Another player who will make a big jump in the post-July Class of 2012 rankings is Peoria Manual's Jacoby Roddy, who plays his AAU ball with the Illinois Wolves. Yes, he's a bit undersized for a 4-man and he's not exactly the type of skilled player you see on the wing, but he's a player where you just have to look past some of the drawbacks. The 6-5 athlete is strong, battles and brings it each time out. He competes with a constant motor, rebounds, defends and has an improved jumper out to 15 feet.
