  • Dr. Cross Speaks at Area Kiwanis Meeting

Interesting talk today by Dr. Cross- talked about new facilities, what BU needs to do to compete better..i.e. "win championships", PSO's, how sports are to be judged.. Changes in Athletic Department, roles within teh department et al.

Good attendance and good questions from audience...
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

Only in talking that money was the driving force in a lot of these decisions... He also said that despite being the only revenue maker- basketball isn't necessarily held to higher standard..

He said he wants coaches who want to come to work each day and figure out ho wto get to the top- Said finishing 9th out of 10 teams in the Valley overall doesn't cut it..

Also talked about branding and the difficulties with no clear mascot, branding image, etc.

That accounts for almost all BU coaches!
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

I asked- "Since men's basketball is the only money -maker- are they held to a different standard?"

He said- the "all-sports" trophy so to speak was where we finished 9th of 10 and that needed a lot of work. He said that he doesn't want coaches who make excuses why they can't win- but wants coaches who come to work expecting to win championships AND working towards that goal.

He also said that he feels that Bradley has all the necessary tools to do this..

Sounded interesting to me- to be sure.

He also stated that after reviewing the staff and department, he felt there were people who were either doing too much- or not doing what they were best at, and this is why there have been and will continue to be some reassignments of duties, etc.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
