  • OT- ESPN Zone in Chicago to close

Some of our posters, especially in Chicago, have dined at the ESPN Zone Restaurant/Sports Bar. It served decent food, and had TVs everywhere to watch every available sporting event, including some taped events.

Unfortunately, the Walt Disney Company, which owns ESPN and the ESPN Zone restaurants in 7 cities has announced they will close most of the restaurants, including the one in Chicago.
One hundred years provides more than several lifetimes full of highlights, some lowlights, and many memories. Here’s a look at 100 years of the Western Golf Association and the Western Open. …

The food there wasn't very good, was super overpriced, and the place was kind of lame. There are 100's of better places to catch a game in Chicago than ESPNZone, that's for sure.

Several years ago I was in Chicago attending the UIC v Georgia Tech game on a Monday night. After the game we stopped in to the ESPNzone for a beer and food... were told they were closing and they would not give be able to give any food and only the one beer... this was atleast 30 minutes before they closed.

Just like the Mothership... completely overrated and not overall worth the time.

ESPN zone is a nice diversion when you are in Disney World where it is one of the few places with most of the games, and the dinner menu is actually more affordable than most places, (because it is sandwiches, not entrees) but nothing about the food or experience would make me want to go there when other choices are available...

One of my favorite sports memories took place at ESPNZone Chicago. On January 27, 2001 I celebrated a birthday by going to a Bulls game with friends on a Saturday evening. In the early afternoon we went to ESPN Zone to watch the Indiana vs Iowa bball game...back when both teams were good. The entire place was packed with Indiana fans, and we were about the only Iowa fans in the joint.

Iowa trailed 43-26 at half, but Luke Recker (remember than name) stunned his former team by hitting 4 straight 3's to start the half, Ryan Hogan hit 3 straight 3's and Iowa had the game tied within 5 minutes, and hung on to win.

Oddly enough, I don't remember a single thing about that Bulls game!
