I didn't have any problems with BU playing in CBI and CIT games, they were kind of like pre season non con games played in the post season.

More opportunities to watch/cheer BU and to see other teams BU normally doesn't get a chance to play. In some cases, the teams BU played in the CBI/CIT tourneys were better than some of BU's non con schedules those years.

As long as BU made money, or helped with recruiting with their participation in these games, great.

What bothers me are the fans making BU's participating in these two tourneys, and winning a game or two, some kind of notable accomplishment, or validation of the progress/turnaround with the BU MBB program and it's coaching staff.

Still waiting for that to happen!

These tour. are suppose to be stepping stones on moving ahead to the next bigger tour; unfortunately without a true center BU was not able to go forward like ODU and Oakland which had good true post players, that is the only thing holding us back.

And for the record, Bradley did set attendance records for the CBI and CIT tournament games that still stand. So it does seem most Bradley fans were excited to see them participate.
Bradley's decision not to participate last year was due to a couple reasons that were never made public, and not because they were embarrassed to be in those tournament, like a few fans.

The latest on isu's scheduling strategy.....

                http://www.pantagraph.com/app/blogs/main/?p=5172

“We’re going to wait as long as we feel like we can. At some point you’ve got to close it down, but we’re trying to hold out and see if we can’t get a home and home with a BCS school,” he said. “There’s a big risk in that because we may not, and then you’ve got to get somebody. But right now that’s our plan.”

ISU appears ready to host another Thanksgiving break exempt tournament, but this could be the last year for that.

“Next year (the 2011-12 season) we’ll do everything we can to get into an exempt tournament that give us that chance to play some BCS schools, but it doesn’t help us get them here (to Redbird Arena),” said Jankovich.

“My wish list would be to play home-and-home series with BCS schools. That’s not going to happen. We’ll be lucky to get one. We’ll see if anyone is desperate enough to sign up for it.”
Hasn't Jank used the "next year" line every year since he showed up?

The word "embarassed" was never used by me.....so thats someone else's interpretation to add some hyperbole to what I am saying.

The EIEIO tournies tell us ONE thing....we were not good enough to get into the NCAA's...PERIOD. Not good enough three years in a row.

THAT is a letdown in my book.

BU gets 8,9 and sometimes 10k to games allthough this year there was a significant decline in attendance. (anyone that trys to argue that is blowing smoke)

The EIEIO's had horrible attendance relatively speaking......setting attendance records in a tourney thats only three years old means nothing IMO and is like putting lipstick on a pig.

Yeah, its always great to see BU play. The first eieio people "accepted" it and pretty much said if its the start of an upward run...ok....we'll take the xtra games.

Year two the grumblings started...anyone that didn't here them had their heads buried in the sand.

Year three and it was loud enough that BU even heard them of that I'm convinced. Almost every fan I spoke with said if BU plays I don't think I will go. They felt it was like rewarding mediocrity......

So i ask, If these tournies are so great then why didn't we play......its painfully obvious for anyone that wants to admit it. It shows a failure on our part to improve and the staff and admin felt the same way the majority of fans did....its rewarding mediocrity.

I applaud JL for sending the message to his players.

I "demand" more from BU...I expect more from BU....I think JL...no I KNOW JL does also and I don't doubt Mr. Cross and Madam President do also.

Simple question...would EIEIO part IIII make anyone happy...excited......thrilled....?

Letdown, yes.....not sure who said they weren't letdown by not making the NCAA as that should be the goal of every single Division I school in the country. It's too bad only a select few make it every year and apparently the entire conference is only good enough to get one school in lately.

Well, they certainly had more than the capacity of the new Bradley Arena. Someone should let the administration know how many tickets were sold and we should not have all (or any) postseason games somewhere that only holds 4,200 people.

Hmmmm.....that's too bad people feel that way. I personally look forward to any game I'm able to attend, especially games that occur in late March/early April.

My point is, looking at the BIG picture, these games (EIEIO) are a letdown. They basically mean nothing. THey mean, at least to me, we failed NOT that we did anything special like some try and spin it.

One every 4-5 years I can handle but to put yourself in "position" three years in a row......that spells failure/mediocrity period.

Again...I expect more from BU. If others don't thats fine, for them, I just think the bar should be set a little higher then being all giddy with a matchup with 13-17 Cinncinati at an arena 1/4 filled while UNI is playing in the NCAA for the nation to witness.

I believe it was more like 1/2 full (5,100+). Not too bad, considering tickets were only available for a couple days and the general public tickets were only available the day of the game. In fact, pretty good considering it was against a team that was 13-17.

I expect more too, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stay home when Bradley is playing and I'm able to go! Not "giddy", just happy to see another Bradley basketball game.

Yeah I wanted Bradley to go into one this year for the sake of me getting to go to another game. I will always go to the games.

I realize it gives our players more experience and such but that still doesn't make it respectable.

If our team next year can't make the NIT.......then....

this article says Indiana State is playing a lot of tough road non-conference games...
and of course the obligatory comment about how hard scheduling is...

                              "I wish people knew how hard it was to put a schedule together;
it’s one of the hardest things we do,” (new head coach Greg) Lansing said"

--they play Purdue at "neutral" Conseco Fieldhouse
--they also play at Wyoming in the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Conference Challenge
--also road games at Ball State and Oral Roberts, both return trips for home games last season
--they are in a nonexempt tournament at Loyola of Chicago on the weekend of Nov. 12
--but they do host DePaul and a BracketBuster opponent
