Yeah, I'm finding it interesting "reconsidering" the realignment question in terms of larger conferences... 4 very large "BCS football" conferences - Big 16 (?), Pac-16, SEC, ACC, and a couple of other very large conferences generally west (w/football) and east (no football) in nature, along with some teams falling into MAC and/or CUSA replacing the MVC, Big East, A10, and Big XII. Could make for an interesting landscape with dual-autobid conferences in the NCAA tourney for the 16+ team megaconferences.

The real story would be dual autobids in the BCS. Dual bids for these conferences in the basketball tourney will sort of be a non-story - it's not really taking anyone's at-large bid away.

This may actually help the mid majors for a couple of years. We've seen the Big East struggle to get more than half their league in. If you combine all the power conferences, instead of the Big 10 getting in 6 or 7 out of 11, for example, a Big 10 fusion may strugger to get to 8 or 9 out of 16. More teams left out = more mid-majors.

Of course, that boon would be extremely temporary if Armageddon is coming.

The wheels are in full motions now. Colorado is going to the Pac-10.

I could never see the Pac 10 expanding without Colorado. Out of all the Big 12 teams they make the most sense. It's funny how Texas legislature is getting in on this by mandating that all the Texas schools need to be together. The Pac 10 right now is working on a huge TV package that will change the revenue potential for its members beyond what the Big 10 has. UT is the prize in Texas after them I'm sure the Pac 10 really does not care.

The long answer: Yes, if those schools would accept.

MWC vs MVC Challenge would get more interesting?

Per TMZ: Oklahoma St has now received an invitation and will accept to the Pac 10. Like Colorado, it appears the invitation came before it came to the rest.

Translation: The Pac-10 took Colorado because Baylor was threatening their spot. Now, since Baylor then threatened OSU's spot, the Pac-10 are now taking them to block Baylor yet again

It might actually die off - I'm sure there's some expansion clause in there. I don't see Big 12 castoffs looking to get tied into non-con games. Could you imagine them forcing Kansas to go on the road to play Wichita St?

I expect to see OU next and I'm not sure who they will look for to pair up with CO. Texas will also be inclined now to push their way in. I have heard that there are some huge numbers for the Pac 10 with or without TX in their next TV deal. The Pacific rim is a hot market that the Pac 10 has a huge advantage.
