  • Former Bradley recruit Darius Smith leaving UConn

Darius Smith, who Bradley recruited out of Chicago Marshall HS in 2009, spent 1 year at UConn. He didn't play much (averaged 4.4 mpg), and now he has officially announced he is transferring.

The Hartford Courant is reporting that freshman reserve guard Darius Smith, known around these parts affectionally by his nickname, "No-Nickname," will be seeking a transfer. And just when we were...

several months ago the writing was on the wall, and it was just a matter of time...
now with possible sanctions hanging over UConn, Darius is finally making a smart decision to get out....
I sure hope he doesn't aim too high again and go somewhere just to sit on the bench again as we have seen so many other kids do who'd have made great players at a midmajor...

      Please,Please,Please.

Unfortunately, I think all of the changes in our assistants may take away any in we had with him.

I think he would be a great Valley player, I just hope we aren't playing against him.

just read where Indiana has instantly jumped in and trying to land Smith...they're basically going hard after the few remaining players available that can walk and chew gum at the same time...

I was really excited about this guy when we were recruiting him... I'd love to have him transfer in and join the guard rotation in 2011-2012.

Yup - a ton of guard minutes will open up in 2011 (Sammy, Andrew, and Dodie are all seniors this year!)

Here's another recruit leaving and asking out of his LOI, and Keno Davis is not going to let him out...same situation as the kid at DePaul...
Yesterday, yours truly got all high and mighty about DePaul's decision to block recruit Walter Pitchford's appeal to be released from the national letter of intent he signed with the school last fall.

                Quoting the article......

"But if a recruit is no longer enthusiastic about being your player, somewhere along the line, you lost him. You have to let him go. It's that simple. It's especially bad when a school refuses to do so in the midst of a coaching change -- looking at you again, DePaul -- but it's always bad."

I disagree. If there is tampering involved with other schools, then I don't think it's a bad move to take a stance.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

He would have the same issues at Indiana about playing time, if he wants to play huge minutes then BU is the right place for him and is close to home.

You probably should still release them, but put restrictions in the release that keep them from going to the schools that tampered.

I agree but the problem is the NCAA does little to protect schools or should I say the smaller schools against illegally tampering with their players, we lost 3 very good players in Grundy, Granger and Tucker to teams that illegally made contact with them when they were at or signed with Bradley, we had proof of this happening with Tucker and Granger yet nothing was done to penalize these schools so we were pretty much screwed over.
