This is a highly unusual move by DePaul. Almost always, when a school changes coaches, they will allow recruits who were signed by the previous coach to be released. Denying the request will rarely lead to the player backing down and coming to the school, so there is little for DePaul to gain here, and a lot of bad publicity they stand to get that could hurt their future recruiting.
Except in the rare case when a school has evidence of tampering, or something equally sinister, IMO these recruits caught in a coaching change should be given their release.
