I agree - there are good players but way fewer than we used to produce and SHOULD produce.

You listed many but only the TOP rated kids ever made much of a splash at the next level -- they didn't surprise anyone by being good in college since they were the very BEST.
...but even so after the first few you list - then you get to Beverley, Staiger, Hobson, Koshwal, Dunnigan, Dillard - etc...literally HALF the top "cherry picked" names on the list who faltered at the next level or kinda self-destructed.

I still say - except for a VERY few of the BEST Chicago kids in the last DECADE - maybe Derrick Rose then Scheyer - and that's about it -- just somehow were not preapred to develop and succeed at the next level and beyond

....Matt Humphrey - 2008 grad of Hales who went to Oregon, floundered, never averaged more than a couple points per game and hit 55% on FT's, and has now transferred to BC...likely aiming way too high again...

Matt Humphrey is on the move again --
after just one year at Boston College and picking a good place to get playing time becauee Boston College was devoid of talent --

Now Chicago native and one-time BU recruit, Matt Humphrey is leaving and transferring again!

He got more playing time at BC than anyone else and took way more shots than anyone else as well........but didn't finish among the leaders (Top 25) in any category in the entire ACC. (except shots launched!)
His shooting percentages were abysmal - only 35% overall and 31% from 3-pt, and 60% on FT...and he didn't spend a lot of time passing - but I guess he didn't like being on a horrible team at the bottom of the conference..
They didn't win a single road game and went just 4-12 in the ACC.
My guess is that the Boston College fans are not sorry to see him go...there was a rumor he and another BC player often brawled in practice.
He is set to graduate before next fall - so he might be available to play right away - teams that are desperate for anyone who can score will be calling Humphrey immediately --

Anyone know what happened to Stan Simpson? I really wanted him when we were on his tail as a High Schooler.

well - it's time for the annual Stan Simpson followup...

as most will recall - Bradley was seriously recruiting Simpson long ago but he obviously believed he had way, way better talent so he went to ILLINOIS....
but even after redshirting - he couldn't break into the lineup for more than a minute or so of garbage time - so he left Illinois & after a short stopover at juco - he then went to Memphis...
Simpson got lots of press and some thought he'd be a big time player there - but as the season wore on Stan found himself further and further down the bench - finally getting only a couple minutes per game and averaging next to nothing...

SO - now Stan Simpson is about to begin his senior season at Memphis - five years into college and his lifetime scoring totals are as follows...
52 career points, and 41 career rebounds......

This season he's being pegged as a reserve big man-- but imagine all the time he has wasted that he could have been putting up Doug McDermott-like numbers had he only gone to a mid-major...
It's an all to familiar situation seeing these kids spend so many years riding the bench when they DO have decent enough talent had they aimed mid-major.

one of the top juco players in the nation Waverly Austin who was going to South Florida - just found out that some of his credits will not transfer and thus he is immediately open again and looking for a school to enroll - with hope that he he would be eligible elsewhere...
