  • Interesting Lawsuit on the hiring of an assistant coach

When Tubby Smith was hiring assistant coaches after he was hired at Minnesota, he selected and offered an assistant spot to Jimmy Williams.
BUT - the Minnesota Athletic Director (same guy Jim Molinari worked under), Joel Maturi, then "vetoed" the hiring of Williams...who claims in his lawsuit
that not only was he offered the job and accepted, but that he was given assurance that Tubby Smith had the "exclusive authority" to make the hire.
Thus Williams believes he has been wronged by having the job pulled out from under him...and that Tubby's offer and authority to make the hire should have stood,
and that he believes there was fraud in the representation by Tubby of having such authority....
Williams' suit says the verbal agreement should have been good enough, and cites that Tubby himself was hired on the basis of such a verbal agreement.

Yikes...the ruling is against Minnesota and Tubby Smith..
Jimmy Williams, a former Oklahoma State assistant coach who said Gophers coach Tubby Smith promised him a job in 2007, won $1.247 million in Hennepin County Court Wednesday.

    > $1.2 million !!!!!!! I think I am gonna start suing people for everything I thought I maybe was promised but didn't get!!
