Midnight Madness and Red-White scrimmage

I thought this deserved a separate thread in case fans might miss the mention in the other thread, or for those who just have time to look at new topics:

Here is the first official word on the men's basketball events at the new on-campus arena this fall. It's in this release about the new PSO (Personal Seat Option) ticket plan for the new arena.-

Check out the schedule on the right side for the first events scheduled at the new arena. There is a Basketball Midnight Madness scheduled for October 15, 2010, and a Red-White scrimmage later in the preseason. There will also be at least 1 exhibition game played by the men's team, and possibly even a regular season game!

The Bradley men's and women's basketball teams will host a "Midnight Madness" event Oct. 15, as well as the annual Red-White Scrimmage later in the preseason, in the new arena. In addition, the men's basketball team will host one of its two preseason exhibition games and all potential home games in campus-site postseason tournaments on campus. The Braves also are considering hosting at least one regular-season game in the new arena during the 2010-11 season.

I agree. The capacity for basketball is listed at 4,200. I don't know when the last time Bradley played a regular season game with an attendance that low. Unless I'm mistaken, I can't think of it happening in the last 30 years or more.

I am fine with one regular season game there, although I do agree I cannot recall ever being at a BU home game with 4200 people in attendance. Regarding postseason, I cannot see this being fathomable. I personally think this is just posturing with the PCC, NCAA, and any other postseason tournament letting them know that we CAN host a home game at any time. I also think it's letting the PCC know that we will host games on campus if they don't cater to our schedule a little bit more. If hosting men's games from time to time on campus was ever really in the plans, I think that they would have either modernized Robertson and made it a part of the new facilities, or made the parking structure smaller so the arena portion could be larger.

I think you are correct on the intent of the design BB, however, I also think there is now a much different administration in place and plans for the use have likely changed somewhat.

Doesn't make sense to even think about having a regular season game in the new "arena". It would be a slap in the face to the loyal season tickets holders who attend every game at Carver.

I wouldn't doubt that. I know the project manager for the new construction, and know that in the space for the arena, it's as big as it can possibly be. But again, these plans were put in motion by the previous regime.

However, I think it also begs the question on how much money BU makes from a home game at Carver with 8,000 in attendance versus a home game on campus with 4,200 in attendance. Are we getting killed that much on the rent at Carver that this is a break-even proposition?

I'd be curious to know the breakdown of what we pay and revenue from Carver. Does the program make any money from concession, parking and the likes?

Hopefully we'll be in the NCAA and it won't be an issue, but ALL post season games will be held on Campus...even the NIT?....That means no alcohol, and only 4200 seats........Im sure this will make some people very unhappy. Hopefully the people who really care about the alcohol won't go, and that will leave me to get the ticket.

I completely agree with the part that I've bolded. To do it simply because we can would be a mistake IMO. That would leave a good number of people without tickets. Being a "numbers guy", I looked at the last three postseasons' home game attendance at Carver....
