  • Northern Iowa signs another player for 2010

Max Martino of Cedar Rapids Kennedy HS has signed to attend Northern Iowa. He averaged 8.3 ppg as a senior in high school. He was his class valedictorian, and scored a 33 on his ACT. He will attend UNI on an academic scholarship.

I'd be surprised if he adds much to the team on the court, but what a kid like this adds in the locker and in practice would certainly be valuable to any team. Props to Greg McDermott for knowing the value these kind of kids add. And spare the board that he 'worked around' the rules antics I often see in these scenarios on other boards. That kind of academic achievement would easily receive the Presidential Scholarship at BU, and UNI has lower academic standards (sorry, that not meant to be a slam, just a statement of fact). I would be very happy to have a guy or 7 like this on the practice squad at BU, unfortunately BU doesn't give full-ride academic scholarships on anything but the rarest of occasions.

Well, at least Greg McDermott is getting props for something, even if it has nothing to do with him!

Errr... Ummm... My bad? Tell UNI to quit changing coaches so often/stop having their old coaches moving teams so much...
