  • question on contracts of fired coaches

I was wondering how it works when a head coach is fired and is under contract. I know if they don't sign a buyout they collect the money. However, can they accept another job and still collect? Or do they have to be unemployed?

I was curious on Ernie Kent who was head coach at Oregon. He is originally from Rockford and has recruited Chicago. I know he would be way above what we could pay an assistant. But I thought maybe he would work a year or two as an assistant if he had other money coming in. Just thinking of names out of nowhere that would be good assistants for us.

if they do not accept a buyout then in order to get their pay they cannot earn money outside...or if they do they have to clear it with their employer or give that $$ to their empolyer...

Ya I think it differs in every situation... I am pretty sure Porter walked out of ISU with a check for something like $510,000. I doubt he had to pay any of it back when he was hired on as an assistant at SLU...
