And just a couple weeks ago, Bruce Pearl was the obvious choice for SEC Coach of the Year. Note the 9th paragraph here that says, "Pearl is a lock for SEC Coach of the Year and could earn national honors as well for leading the turnaround at Tennessee"--
It seems that Bruce Pearl has alienated most of the other coaches in the SEC with his personality and antics.
From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-
"Yes, the Braves are better than they were when the season started two months ago. By a light year or two, they??™re better."
And from the PJ Star 4/26/12, Dave Reynolds-
"Fields and Grier both appear to be difference makers. If Bradley continues to add the right players around them, happy days may be ahead for the Braves after a long dry spell."
Pearl was on everyone's short list for National Coach of the Year,
and then he doesn't even win the Coach of the Year in his own conference during a season that there were precious few other good performances in the SEC.
Perennial top dogs in the SEC, Kentucky, Alabama, Goergia, Auburn all had bad years. Only Fla., LSU, and Tenn. actually had what you'd say was a fine year, and both have some real blemishes on their seasons.
LSU was 7-5 nonconference and Fla has finished poorly going 7-6 since late Jan.
But LSU swept the SEC All Conference awards, John Brady was named the SEC coach of the year, while LSU center Glen Davis was named SEC Player of the Year and teammate Tyrus Thomas won both SEC Freshman of the Year and co-SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
No sooner does Bruce Pearl get a nice $$ raise and he goes out and underproduces!
Tennessee loses in an early round SEC Tourney game to South Carolina who was barely over .500

This really not that bad of a lost. SC won the NIT last year with the same team they have this year. SC has been under producing this year. I thought they would have been a top 25 program this year It would not suprise me to see them make a run at the SEC championship. They play a grinding type D similar to SIU that really plays out during pressure situations. Only LSU has been playing well lately. Florida, KY and Tenn have not been playing all that great this last month. Also, I think Dave Odom is a really good coach and he will get this team to play well when it counts.

Bruce Pearl is in the news again, and he's associated with another NCAA violation.
"Tennessee---
....The mother of Hampton, Va., basketball star Duke Crews made a $10.95 donation to the Ronald McDonald House to restore her son's eligibility after UT improperly paid the Internet access fee for her stay at the Knoxville Marriott during her son's recruiting visit. Crews can now make his own brand of high speed connections for Bruce Pearl's fast-breaking Volunteers."
