  • More Cheating Revealed at UConn

Does it never end?? These big boys get caught cheating over and over...
and the NCAA still hasn't even bothered to check into the last time or two they were caught cheating!!

More than a year ago were revelations of hundreds of other serious violations and cheating -- MORE illegal phone calls than even Kelvin Sampson had!!
And yet to date, not even a sniff from NCAA!!!!!
    1,565 illegal calls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a year or two earlier, TENS of thousands of $$$$$ worth of illegal benefits were uncovered, and I might just be the only person left in America
that even remembers all this, as it has been totally ignored and swept under the rug...
NCAA simply does NOT care when the cheating is at UConn or one of the big boys' schools....
Did it take a year or two or three for NCAA to swoop onto BU's campus to dig for the Star Trucking records after some snitch called the NCAA??
Nope -- NCAA had investigators on the ground and digging on campus within weeks of the stoolies' calls, and BU was slammed with penalties only a couple months or so later!!
Yup -- strong justice (or injustice) is swift when it's Bradley but at USC and UConn you can cheat like HE!! and nobody cares!!

Don't you think that the NCAA's sentiment towards the "big boys" is the way it is because they feel the heat of looming conference realignment...and, in effect, the erosion of their organization (see conference realignment thread)?

I do. Maybe they are trying not to pick the scab...so to speak.

I have no idea...but it is obvious that the big boys who get caught cheating never get any serious penalties...and even the time it takes for the investigations
causes all the evidence to grow cold, so it makes it even easier for the the cheaters to get off with nothing.

IU, if you recall, voluntarily gave up one scholarship for one year..and the NCAA later said, they had been punished enough so they levied no further substantial sanctions...

This type of behavior from the BCS's of the world has been going on and being ignored, for the most part by the NCAA for a lot longer then the talk of any conference realignment.

The NCAA is a bunch of hypocrites who have no issue with blantent double standards. Reggie Bush will likely be retired before the NCAA issues a statement regarding all the cheating USC did and allowed.

Yes, but don't you think that they've seen the potential for the BCS to break off for a long time - since the BCS was formed?

I think they have and now they are really walking on eggshells when folks like the Kansas AD come out and say they may drop the NCAA all together.

I am sure they have seen this potential for a long time regarding football. I do not though think that is why they go marshmellow soft on any BCS program. I think just like anything the BCS's of the world are what make the cash registar ring. When was the last time any BCS school was bared from post season or television for any behavior problems?

They get slapped because CBS/ESPN will not allow a season to go by without Oklahoma, USC or name a BCS from being available to be on TV.

Look the player from Oklahoma took money, the player at Kansas was found to have cheated on his exams, illegal phone calls all over the place at UCONN, Indiana, Kansas having a huge ticket scandal... etc and not one has been punished like SEMO, Loyola, Middle Tennessee would have been punished.

And the NCAA does not care one bit.

Connecticut has been cheating for a long time and the NCAA has over looked them for a long time. Gary Williams even said something about it regarding their dirty recruiting of Rudy Gay back in 2004.

this may seem OT - but I am going to defend Jim Calhoun a little from the silly criticism he received when he spoke about whether he deserved his salary...

"At a postgame press conference in 2008, a reporter and political activist
asked Mr. Calhoun why the coach of a public university should make $1.6
million in the middle of a fiscal crisis
                  .

"Not a dime back," Mr. Calhoun retorted. "My best advice to you: shut up."

After a clip of the exchange circulated on the Internet, Gov. Jodi Rell, a
Republican, called Mr. Calhoun's behavior an "embarrassing display." Two
Democratic state legislators, Sen. Mary Ann Handley and Rep. Roberta Willis,
sought to have Mr. Calhoun reprimanded. Sen. Handley said she was upset
that the state's highest-paid employee was being "so cavalier" in the face of
                  a serious fiscal crisis."

                  My two points are this...

--just who offered and agreed to pay Calhoun his salary - would you expect him to give it back?? Just how many of the very people criticizing Calhoun would be willing to decline their salary?
NONE, that's for sure...and if Calhoun was GIVEN a contract for $1.6 million, then doesn't THE CONTRACT require it be paid to him??
Why is it Calhoun's fault that he accepts what he is CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED TO ACCEPT????

--nobody bitc*es about his salary when we're in reasonably good economic times and when he's winning national titles...
But - the guy has a down year or we have a poor economy, then they gripe..

Well -- just whose fault is it that we have (as the reporter whines).."the middle of a financial crisis"????
It isn't Calhoun's problems that the State of Connecticut has so badly bumbled their budgetary issues...
I find it funny yet ironic that two prominent politicians, plus the governor all criticize Calhoun for making a lot (and I suppose also paying a lot of taxes in the process)
                  during the financial "CRISIS"!!!
                  JUST WHO CAUSED the crisis??
It is the truly greedy, selfish, and irresponsible overspenders in the government -- the very people criticizing Calhoun for the problem they are responsible for.

Get real, pols.....you caused the crisis with your giveaways and irresponsibility and negligence...stop blaming the guy who is successful and gets his budgets balanced...

UConn cheating? Not getting caught/penalized? I am shocked, shocked to see cheating going on without recrimination at BCS schools.

NCAA execs will not bite the hands of those who feed them.

OT, I bet all the UConn grads are just sick to death about the degradation of their UConn degrees over the cheating at UConn MBB. Probably throwing away all their UConn MBB memorabilia...
