  • Creighton signs another juco player

Creighton signed Tyrone Nared, a 6'8" forward from Monroe Junior College in New York City (the same junior college that produced Matt Salley).
He describes himself as a 6'8" wing player who likes to shoot the three.
He's originally from Rhode Island and spent his freshman year at a Division II juco, Community College of Rhode Island. He has to take some summer classes at Monroe before he will qualify to transfer to Creighton. He decided on Creighton after a visit this past weekend, but recruiting sources suggest he did not have any other D1 offers.

At Monroe College he averaged 7.9 ppg and 6 rpg.

This signing puts Creighton at 14 scholarships for next year, so obviously, someone must be leaving that hasn't been announced yet.

Here is a premium artivle about Tyrone Nared-

    Profile-

Also, Creighton just signed juco point guard Jahenns Manigat.-

And they had signed another juco, Keithrick Denson from Navarro CC (Chris Roberts' old school) last fall-

In many descriptions he is labelled as "a tall kid who shot a lot of 3s"..and is not a low post player...

    Tyrone Nared:
2007-2008: senior year at Woonsocket, RI High School, did not play
2007-2008: at CCRI (Community College of Rhode Island a D-II juco) -- did not play, redshirted
    2008-2009: at CCRI - played 31 games, 12.0 ppg, 9.7 rpg
2009-2010: at Monroe, played 37 games, 7.9 ppg, 5.6 rpg

in his two years of junior college he attempted 71 3-pointers, and made 26 for a cumulative pct over his 2 years in juco of 36.6%.

Check your facts. Manigat is not a JUCO; he is in high school right now.

that is correct, he had verballed to Canisius, then "reopened his recruitment" when a better offer came from Creighton...
he hails from "the only prep school" in Canada, originally called NEDA—National Elite Development Academy, now called REDA (Regional)
"Players participating in this program attend St. Mary’s High School in Hamilton, Ontario and some live locally while others have found a house to rent out"

..this probably isn't all too big of a loss...The kid's juco numbers weren't too good...7 ppg, 5 rpg...

Another one of Creighton's juco commits, Keithrick Denson, has been released from his LOI.

This Oklahoma writer kinda takes a few rips at McDermott...

"..Cyclones coach Greg McDermott bolted Ames for the Creighton job, the
piece questioned if OU coach Jeff Capel was second-guessing himself for
sticking with the Sooners instead of following McDermott's lead to get out of
            town.
Upon further review, the major difference between McDermott and Capel is
that the Sooners' coach didn't break the cardinal sin in his profession — he
didn't quit on his team or his school.
Perhaps McDermott was staying one step ahead of the posse that was out
to get him fired. But he also didn't fulfill the promise he made to the players
he left behind — a commitment that he'd always be there for them."
