  • Bruce Weber agrees to play SIU at Assembly Hall

When Bruce Weber moved from SIU to Illinois back in 2003, he said he would want to get SIU on Illinois' schedule. However, for the past 7 years he has avoided scheduling SIU and most other instate schools.
Now that SIU has bottomed out, it seems this is a good time for Bruce to invite the Salukis to play the Illini in Champaign. It will be a 1-game deal in Champaign next November.-

Well.....at least SIU will accept the offer, as opposed to a certain other instate school that apparently has a "policy" against such deals.

I would never do that if I was SIU.

It's still pretty funny! Bruce does have a sense of humor after all.

If your a big guy. This just makes SIU look like any buy team out there. And next year they'll get beaten like one but with far greater ramifications.

I would hate to see Bradley turn down a game against any potential Top 20 opponent. For the record, I don't think Bradley is considered a "big guy".

U of I a perennial top 20 opponent? Not since before BU went to the sweet sixteen...

                      "potential", not "perennial"........big difference.

I do believe it's already been posted on this board that the VERY early polls have them in the top 30, some much higher than that.

Thanks for the intelligence insult, but I more than understand the difference. It was a joking jab at U of I, not a misunderstanding of words. For the record many pre-season ranking last year had U of I in the top 30 last year as well.

Gotcha......didn't mean to insult, just didn't want you to misunderstand my thought process. Sorry about that.

The very early pre-season ranking is exactly why I said "potential".

Anyways, I would never say "I would never do that if I was Bradley", when talking about accepting an offer from any potential Top 20 team.

Agreed completely. If a team is likely to be a Top 50 RPI, I'd love to play them. Especially if they have a shot at being ranked when we play them. Always gives our guys some motivation...! Especially if in-state.

I also agree Shaunguth, I would take the chance to play the Illini every time even on the road. It would get me pumped to try an take them out on their court. You have nothing to lose, and a whole lot to gain. Like how we beat Illinois this year.

SIU might be at the bottom, but that is why it would make it even more embarrassing for Illinois to lose to them. Pressure is all on them. Bruce Weber is kind of a coward for waiting until now when they are no good to play them though.
