Local kid gets D1 offer

Taylor Baxter, a 6'5" guard from Fieldcrest HS has gotten an offer from North Dakota State of the Summit League.

One other recruiting note from ChicagoHoops.com-
A kid who was a Bradley recruit a long time ago, Michael Haynes, has committed to play for Texas-El Paso and new coach tim Floyd.
Haynes was once one of the top rated kids in the Illinois 2010 class, but fell off the map when he did not live up to expectations, then was ruled academically ineligible at Chicago Washington High School.
He transferred and played the rest of this season at Heat Academy in Virginia. There are still academic issues that have caused most schools to back off his recruiting.

I was as impressed with Baxter more than anybody else I saw during Manual's run to the title game this year. Now, I only saw one game, but he was very, very good......Good ballhandler at 6'5", could really knock down the midrange jumper, good passer, very athletic (as evidenced by his participation in the dunk contest)...... Could definitely be a player at the D1 level......will need to add strength and could use some work on the defensive end, but the skill set, size and athleticism are already there.

He reminded me a little of Kyle Cassity who played at Pinckneyville 2 years ago. Baxter needs to get stronger, but could be a decent midmajor player. I am happy to see he may get a chance.

Fieldcrest's Baxter did not play this year -- he was redshirting -- but with concerns he might not see playing time..
he has left North Dakota State and is transferring to Loras (D-III)

Maybe you remember him...Robo Kreps...

He seems to be doing quite well...

Kreps was a lot more highly regarded in high school than Baxter was, and a much better shooter.
Robo Kreps was 2nd in the Mr. Basketball voting to Derrick Rose. Not bad for a kid from tiny Maroa-Forsyth HS.
Rivals had Kreps rated at 2-stars. Baxter did not show up on most recruiting services.
