An amazing fact about the NCAA

the NCAA is involved in 50 different sports and competitions and there are members in three divisions that total almost 1000 schools...
NCAA gets cuts of revenue from competitions, football games, women's sports, advertising, sponsorships, endorsements, etc...

But, this column reveals that the NCAA gets 98% of ALL ITS REVENUE from one single source...

This statement is from ESPN's Andy Katz, and ESPN is themselves involved in contract negotiations with NCAA
..so I would assume his sources and good and his knowledge is solid...
so take it or leave it, but he says.......

"The NCAA makes nearly 98 percent of its money
from the NCAA men's basketball tournament."

I guess 98% is not enough for them! Plus the BCS share is probably "too low", so they need more revenue as well. It doesn't say a lot for the their football revenue, does it?

I'm also surprised that the amount of each bid has been leaked, unless of course both CBS and ESPN are bluffing.

And CBS did not make money on this year's tournament? Sounds fishy too considering their ratings went up this year with Butler making their run, again dispelling the myth that smaller schools draw smaller ratings.

Oh well. Money makes the world go around I guess!

I guess the ability of CBS's affiliates to play the games has nothing to do with their overall revenue as well as the ability to jack up viewership for other programs.
