Hahaha Mike Davis......the whole Illini team should just declare. Bradley can do it too while we're at it. JC can even give it another go, and Jimmy can lace em up again to see if he's still got it. Maybe we can just become an NBA expansion team if everyone declares. That way Sam Singh could stay forever! Of course Kentucky probably has the edge on becoming a pro team, since they probably already use the practice of paying their players.

Obviously I got a little carried away, but the point is this kind of ridiculous when Mike Davis is declaring. Sure it is good to see where you're at, but just ask a couple players/coaches who have been there before. We can't have half the country declaring to see where they are at. Not that he couldn't get to NBA caliber at some point, possibly next year, but he is not at that point now for sure.

Davis couldn't get up for 2 or 3 games a week against college talent. How is he ever going to get up to play 4 games a week against professional? He's the same type of player as O'Bryant was/is. What a joke!!

like i said in another thread.....MD has potential....

but when you are as inconsistent as he is (for months at a time)

have an unorthodox jumpshot, and are extremely soft.....eh...

but sometimes he does play like he can atleast get drafted.

Part of me thinks a coach like Weber may be happy when guys like Davis, who honestly have no shot at being drafted, declare after their junior year. I would think that hearing NBA guys tell you that your not ready and here are the things you need to work on to be ready would be great motivation heading into your senior season.

Better than them thinking they are already good enough to make it to the NBA and tuning the coach out. In Davis case, doesn't matter if his motivation and desire don't improve dramtically.

Seeing BC become a starter this year was a pleasant surprise. I was watching an Illinois game in a sports bar in Mesa with some friends and the announcers kept mentioning BC and Richarsdon being from Peoria and all the players from here that have played for the Illini. A guy from Michigan wondered why with all the talent from this area, how come Bradley isn't any better and why they don't play for the Braves. I told him our coach is working on that and is doing a good job recruiting the area.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

Sorry but I think the "role players" in the NBA are just the stars that didn't transition well from college to the league...
