I think it signals that he has A LONG way to go to get his grades in order if he hopes to play D1 again.

Ironically, a kid with grade troubles like Simpson might be better off at a program like Bradley. The most recent academic results of the of the student athletes indicates more than just recruiting bright kids. It also means the the coaches are stressing the importance of doing well in class and that there are solid tutors available to the players.

If you're a kid that needs helps in the classroom, UIUC is a hard place to get the same level of personal support as you would at Bradley.

Kentucky Sports Radio is reporting that John Calipari will travel to watch Stan Simpson practice Wednesday at John Logan CC...

"Stan Simpson said UK will visit him Wednesday to watch him practice. Yes,
we??™re talking about practice. It??™s clear that UK wants to add another big man
to their 2011 class and Simpson is in a group with Braeden Anderson and
God??™s Gift Achiuwa in contention for that spot. Simpson could become the
favorite based on what happens Wednesday."

I suspect Simpson is a backup plan for Calipari if Terrance Jones decides to go to the NBA, which many people think is likely, and he is unable to land any other 5-star recruits.

as most D-I caliber kids should -- Simpson is averaging some decent numbers while playing at juco...

            12.4 ppg, 54% FG shooting, 8.2 rpg, 1.9 bpg, 2.5 TO

but recall -- even Shang Ping got similar numbers in juco (14.3 ppg/5 rpg) -- most 6-8 or 6-9 guys ought to clean up at this level....

MO, playing less than half the minutes Simpson is getting is averaging over 6 ppg & 4 rpg, hitting 58% of his shots

I said way back when Illinois signed him that he was not a good recruit based on watching him play in the state tour; unless he has changed his work ethic I doubt he does much for Kentucky or any other d-1 program.

Is MO still on our radar?

I believe he still is, but he is just a juco freshman (a 2012 recruit).
