  • Stan Simpson?

I wonder if he is a possible transfer here. I know we were in his final list. He is leaving Illinois and is said to have grade problems. I wonder if he would be eligible to transfer here? I am not positive I would want him. I hope he doesn't end up at SIU though. I have no reason to think that he would except they have so many openings to fill.

Not too sure but didn't he already use a red-shirt year @ illinois?

Is there news that he is leaving for sure? I can't find any reports that verify that yet, though he was scheduled to meet with Coach Weber today "to discuss his future with Illinois". That sounds like the coaches want him gone.

And yes, he redshirted last year with an injury, and played very little this year. So if he transferred to another D1 he would lose a year of eligibility, unless he was granted a waiver by the NCAA.

I see. I think it's a little unusual for a journalist to make statements like "Stan Simpson will transfer from Illinois" before the kid actually announces what he will do.

But I do think the junior college route would be his best option, since he would have to sit out a year and lose that year of eligibility if he went to another D1 school. And especially if he is having academic problems, then juco can help him get back on track.

as we have seen from the rabid frenzy that's going on with any uncommitted kid
...Dwight McCombs, John Wilkins, Moussa Guyere, Ben Brust, etc..
then Stan Simpson's best bet is go to juco, put up anything better than crappy numbers,
then wait 'til April of 2011, and he'll have BCS head coaches battling like heck
                  for his signature...

Anyone with serious academic issues should not be considered here. I know there are some special cases but at this point if they can't contribute right away why take that chance?

I do not believe he is that good of a player, I saw him in the state Tour. and appeared to be lazy, was good against 6-4 players because of his size, did not play well against guys his own size.

That school is about fifteen minutes away from SIU. I wonder if that signals anything?
