Lewis Lloyd who left Drake in 1981 was the last Drake player to play in the NBA
He was not drafted in 1982, but in round 4 of the 1981 NBA Draft
Bradley's Hasan Houston was drafted a few picks later in the 5th round...
BTW - some sites list Maurice Evans as a Wichita player that made it to the NBA - but then they should also list Danny Granger...
since Evans left Wichita and transferred to finish his career elsewhere, like Granger..
Same goes for Greg Dreiling & Ozell Jones...both transferred out of WSU

This is about Wilkins' legacy at ISU. Flash certainly knows more about ISU history than me and he has told me Wilkins is one of the all-time greats at ISU. I trust Flash's knowledge about this.
As far as the numbers go, Wilkins has played in more NBA games than any other Redbird. He has the 2nd most NBA points trailing Doug Collins.
Wilkins high scoring game at ISU was 41 which ranks tied for 12th. Wilkins scored 631 points in 1977 which is the 6th highest single season total at ISU. His career total is 1,329 and ranks 17th. He did this is 3 years. Wilkins was the 9th leading career scorer when he left ISU. Wilkins also had 2 20 rebound games. He grabbed 323 rebounds in 1977 which ranks as the 5th best single season at ISU. Wilkins' 794 career rebounds is 7th on ISU's all time list. He amassed these totals in 81 games, not the 130+ games played by today's players.
Again, we are talking ISU history and how ISU fans feel about Wilkins and not MVC history.
Thanks for making this an ISU history lesson.

Everyone agrees Jeff Wilkins was a great player at ISU and is still arguably one of their TWO BEST EVER!!
That begs the question why in the thirty years after he left school the folks at ISU never saw fit to reward Jeff with a plaque, a banner, the retirement of his jersey or his number, or even a simple ceremony pointing to his great accomplishments...
I am fully aware of Flash's tremendous knowledge about ISU basketball -- after all he coached there and landed Jeff Wilkins for them...but even Flash also has been totally forgotten by the ISU -- his memory thrown by the Redbirds into the trash heap...
They don't celebrate anyone over there except one person...
they would have changed the entire city's name to Collinsville had that name not already been taken, but the rest of their greats have never gotten a peep from anyone...
they treat their old-timers very poorly there - unlike the way they get treated at BU.
Bradley has had the old timers - as many as can come - back for at least some every every single year!!
Hopefully nobody needs to remind the Wilkinses of those facts.....

tornado, you might want to let Chico know that Jeff Wilkins is an all-time great at ISU. There's your answer as to why Wilkins' accomplishments were noted.
Re: the rest of your post on ISU. I wonder what has changed since Wilkins' original intention of attending Bradley? ISU has not recently gotten in touch with their past, as far as I know.

It doesn't appear that you are following my premise.
It was suggested that Hawkins' kids wouldn't want to play at BU due to unfair pressure/expectations. That would be the same as Chris Collins attending ISU.
If Hawkins is considered number 1 at Bradley, then JJ Anderson or Anthony Parker could be considered 2. (Sorry Chet Walker, et al)
Jeff Wilkins certainly can be considered number 2 at ISU.
It has nothing to do with being the conference leading scorer, etc. It has to do with being one of the all time greats at ISU, regardless of where that ranks you nationally or in a conference.
By the way, ISU wasn't D1 when Marberry played there. Difficult to bring that comparison. And I'd venture to say that ISU had more talent during the Wilkins era than lots of MVC teams.

Originally posted by Chico View PostI'm not comparing MVC histories. Just said that the Hawk is the leading all time scorer for a well respected conference. IF ISU wasn't part of the MVC when Wilkens played, I'm sure his competition wasn't the greatest. Fred Marberry from Peoria is one of the all time leading scorers there and I wouldn't compare him with what Hersey accomplished. Not a slam at Wilkins, just giving my opinion and I don't need Tornado, as you suggested, to give me lessons in basketball history.

Haven't seen this posted anywhere so just in case....
Indiana is pursuing former Iowa recruit Cody Larson a 6'9 player whose game is reported to be a mix between a 3, 4, and a 5.
"Larson, who has four official visits remaining, is not speaking publicly about his recruitment at this time, but is expected to take some time to work through the recruiting process before making a decision. The spring signing period begins this Wednesday and concludes on May 19."
Indiana’s pursuit of a big man for its 2010 class continues to roll on full steam ahead. The latest target is 6-9, 230-pound Sioux Falls (SD) forward Cody Larson, who was released from his Letter of Intent with Iowa on ...
What a mess... I wonder how many players Tom Crean can string along like thisBradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

Indiana is pursuing all of my kids except my 11 year old...and both my cats just got a letter in the mail...and one doesn't even play basketball!
Seriously, with so many gazillions of kids targeted, how can any really feel like they are a top target to Crean..
I think this pattern of recruiting and offering just about everyone can work against him...and it seems to be doing so as he cannot get anyone but 3-Star kids to commit!

Here is another big man (juco) that just reversed his commitment to Valparaiso, and it is reported that Indiana is hotly pursuing him, too.
