If the player is overly sensitive and reads internet fodder, then stay away. Eddy Curry's dad was upset at things said when Eddy was drafted. I agree that it happens at times but those are usually head cases you want to stay clear of getting into the program.

Like I said, I played pick up ball with lots of D1 players and they never, ever cited fan support as a reason. They were east coast kids who ended up playing at NC State (2 of them), Fordham, Yale, Northeastern, Duquense and Florida (football). Maybe the midwest is different.

You are correct in that the ISU equivalent to Hawkins' kids would have been Chris Collins. But Wilkins is ISU's equivalent to JJ Anderson or Anthony Parker so there is still a legacy there. Wilkins spent 6 or 7 years in the NBA and another 10+ in Europe.

Parents do read message boards and if you do not think that what is said on those boards do not effect them and if you do not think that parents do not have a bearing on their kids then I guess we can't agree. How much does it influence a player and their family? I'd guess it depend on where they are in the decision process. I'd like to think that being positive or at least not being rude about these young kids is a good thing regardless.

Just wish John would give BU a final visit as our style seems to suit his game a lot more as he would have the freedom to shoot from the outside more then the other teams he is looking at.

Some parents do, some parents don't. Like I said, my experience with numerous D1 players I knew was they didn't give a rip about fan bases or internet message boards.

And if someone is rude or mean spirited on a message board about a kid that certainly says more about the poster than the person posted about.

So what is so secretive about that?

IMO, Wilkens isn't the equivalent of either JJ or AP. I agree on Chris Collins.

Wilkins (the elder) is equivalent to whom at BU then?

I think JJ/AP are fair comparisons.

I know Flash considers Jeff Wilkins as one of the all-time ISU greats. Check out NBA #s and you'll find that ISU's NBA history is somewhat void other than Collins & Wilkins.

You'll see Bubbles Hawkins played in 100 games or so. Cyrus Mann was drafted but didn't make it for some reason. Remember that ISU did not go D1 until 1970 (or something like that).

Tell me his all time stats at ISU and I'll venture an opinion. Not that he wasn't a decent player but I just find it hard to compare him with the all time scoring leader at Bradley and the MVC.

                              We've posted these lists before.

Here are the players attributed to Bradley that have played in the NBA-

note that it does not include Danny Granger and any other player who transferred and played at another school after Bradley. Still, Bradley has had an impressive history with 19 NBA players, a lot for a school the size of Bradley.

The page can be set to check for any other college. Bradley has more NBA'ers than any MVC school.

Here are ISU's 3 NBA players.-

Here are the number of NBA players from each of the current MVC schools according to this site-
                              Bradley- 19
                              Drake - 14
                              Creighton- 12
                              Wichita St- 9
                              So. Illinois- 9
                              Indiana St- 9
                              Evansville- 5
                              Missouri St- 4
                              Illinois St- 3
                              No. Iowa- 0

14 NBA'ers from Drake? That must have been pre-shot clock...
