  • Junior College All Americans

    NJCAA named their All Americans...

    In Division I -
-ex-Seton Hall and ex-Boys to Men Michael Glover was 1st Team
-Joe Ragland, recent Wichita State verbal, is also 1st Team
-John Wilkins' teammate at Southeast Iowa, Norvell Arnold is 2nd Team
-BU recruit Diante Watkins out of Chicago is 3rd Team
-ex-BU recruit Cephas Oglesby is Honorable Mention
    http://www.njcaa.org/sports_awards.c...divid=1&slid=2

In Division II - Lincoln's Chris Ware was 1st Team, and there's a guy on the 3rd team named "God's Gift Achiuwa".
Even though Lincoln won the national title, no other Lincoln player got mention.

In Division III - Brian Bradley of Joliet Junior College was 1st Team, as was ex-Iowa State Marcus Brister

ps-- there must be a little politics at play here....as there is one kid, Karron Johnson, at Moberly Area, who is averaging 22 ppg, 8 rpg, and is widely thought to be one of the best 3 or 4 juco players in the nation, but he only got 3rd Team AA!

Former BU recruit Diante Watkins of Daley Junior College in Chicago just committed to Missouri Western State University. He did not qualify for D1 because of academic issues.

something's definitely up with this kid Karron Johnson...

He went to high school in Virginia, then went successively to Mt. Zion Academy, The Patterson school, and then Laurinburg prep...moving on each year sometimes with issues..
Stay up to date with all the college basketball recruiting news and more at 247Sports.com

then he went to Oklahoma State, and like a whole lot of Oklahoma State kids had troubles there as well...and so he was booted and went to Moberly area junior college last seasons.
But apparently he was not welcome back, so he transferred to Gulf Coast CC in Florida for this season, but has already been booted even tho he's just now there for summer courses...
He still has 3 years of eligibility left but may not be eligible at d-I unless he finishes JC...buit I am sure some othe rjuco will take a chance on him, they always do...

also - Bob Huggins will always take him...

Karron Johnson was never at Oklahoma State, he failed to qualify therefor went to Moberly JC. He was not happy at MACC with the environment (small country-type town) and wanted to go somewhere that had more things of interest for him off the court and chose Gulf Coast CC. While he does have some issues off the court he was not booted from Moberly or OSU and he decided to transfer voluntarily. Trust me, they would have LOVED to have him return.

Karron's early life has been detailed and was very troubled...his father was murdered when he was 9, he bounced from home to home with his mother being ill and unable to care for him, and he attended numerous different high schools, then prep schools and had a lot of behavior issues along the way..

..as that first link I gave said - he was kicked out of Patterson school...
he was also dismissed from Mt. Zion...one report said it was due to a "confrontation with his coach"...

and he would have gone to Oklahoma State but fell short of admission requirements...so he never did attend...

yet another premium article also talks about his troubles and frequent school changes and dismissals...at least 5 different high schools and now 2 different jucos...

and a discussion on the NC State premium board says he is supposedly already in trouble at Gulf Coast...(based on something on Facebook)...so go figure..

Dinate Watkins ended up at Robert Morris...and here's a followup...
the high scoring PG from Daley junior college is playing very well and has repeatedly been their conference Player of the Week...
He has lad Robert Morris (Chicago) to an overall 20-1 record, and currently 3-0 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference ..and as a team they average 92 points per game.

Diante is averaging 19.4 ppg and 6.1 assists per game.
he is also shooting 56-132, 42.4% from 3-pt and 88% on FT
He adds 2.3 rpg, and 2.5 steals per game.
I think this kid could have played D-I

Here's a couple other followups of local kids from the same CCAC conference...
            Bloomington's Cory Hainlen 15.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg
            Washington's Ben Worner 7.9 ppg, 36% on 3-pointers
            Ex-WIU Larry Dumas 14.2 ppg, 3.7 rpg
Ex-BU recruit Darren Tillman 1.6 ppg, 1.2 rpg
Ex-UIC & Rockford Tori Boyd...playing little due to injury

And finally a guy who was hyped as a new walk on at ISU whose shooting ability would help ISU right away...
Kyle Miklasz 9.8 ppg, 32.6% on 3-pointers (now playing for Roosevelt University, Chicago, IL)

I actually just saw Diante play last night against the school where I go and can see why alot of D-1 coaches didn't pursue him. He is really short 5'9 i think is what i saw and could even be a little shorter. I would really say that WL and Dse are prob better than he is. IMO he would prob average around 10-12 a game maybe in D-1 since the competition is a little weaker than D-1. Don't get me wrong he's a good player but don't know if he would play in front of some of our guards.

Diante Watkins did have D1 offers, but he ended up having to go to a DII school because of academic issues and he did not qualify for D1.

it was always a puzzle why Norvell Arnold just dropped off the map - as lots of recruiters were following him, and he had BCS offers and great stats...

UNI had some initial interest in him. I too wondered why he wasn't on Utah State's roster last year. Good find.
