Don't they have a vote like this every 2-4 years and, like every other year, nothing happens?
And if the student body president wants to change the school nickname...I say someone sit him down and remind him that he really has no authority over...anything?

Student can have more fun with "unofficial" mascots. Look to Stanford (see link) for inspiration. Good luck ... have fun, within reason, and don't let the adults tell you no!

Kinda of like our Student Sec. who thought HH was from Dayton, Ohio and stared chanting his name (not deon jackson's) at the MVC tourney......that is a perfect example of our student intelligence

A mascot doesn't need to be elaborate or change the nickname. It can be something related without disrupting tradition.
How about something like this guy...I made him special this morning.
He needs a little refinement...but I'd be fine with something like this patrolling our sidelines.

I think "Dieselman" would be fun. Get a guy in a yellow superhero costume complete with ninja mask and have a diesel engine portruding from his front and back. He could run around and be ridiculous. Maybe it could net you a few bucks from the local corporate giant too.

It doesn't have to make sense, doesn't have to be 'indigenous', and doesn't have to have a tie to the history of the school. Sure, those would all be nice. However, the NCAA seems to have stripped us of the right to do that as we please. It just has to be fun and marketable. I think bringing back 'Tommy Hawk' or something similar would probably be as close as we could get to getting something that hits at least 2 of the 3 items I mentioned above (indigenous, ties to the past).Onward and Upward!

If they go out and get a mascot the image will have to be marketable. LG that thing you created is not even close to something I would wear on my baseball hat much less a T shirt. Ben how about your used batteries?"Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."
