I really hope they don't change the nickname Braves.

That's exactly what the current student body president wants to do. Might I suggest a write-in campaign to stop it? I don't want to put a student e-mail address on here (the mods can decide if thats appropriate), but Prez Glassers is president@bumail.bradley.edu.

This seems to be the Change we need. I'm about to the point where I don't give a crap anymore. A change of a mascot and nickname to something stupid like The Squirrels would be just perfect. Maybe I could find another team to root for. Heck - I might just abandon college hoops completely. So let's hear it for a change - yes we can!

This isn't and won't be a student body-made decision. There are too many major dollars at stake if a mistake is made. This may bother some, but students with no sense of the history or tradition of the university should not be making these types of decisions.

I hope you are right! If there is a vote it should be also given to every graduate. Keep the Braves as the nickname!

I'd like to have a Gargoyle as a mascot.

No way does Braves change...that is way beyond the student body president's jurisdiction...choosing a mascot is a different story. You also have to keep in mind that with the totals of that vote that means about 4000 students DID NOT vote at all. Myself included...I had no idea there was even a vote on the issue today. Bradley does not do well at keeping the students informed and involved. As soon as you move off campus...forget about it...you don't know anything anymore lol.

So not even 15% of the student body voted for the change. I knew nothing about this vote, and I'm sure a majority of the ones who voted for the change only voted because they don't care or don't know what the current mascot is. This is a much larger decision that should not be left to a bunch of students who don't even attend sporting events. Don't we pay administrators lots of thousands to make these decisions?

There are a lot of alumni that keep the university and athletic department running that deserve a significant voice. The administration should act on their behalf, keeping the best interests of the university in mind.

Please everyone relax, this vote means absolutely nothing. The student government does not have the authority to order a change in mascot. I knew there was a vote because of committees and groups that I sit on the boards of and the last two days they have also voted on who the new student government president, vp, treasurer, and secretary were going to be. The current board basically passed a useless vote to get it on the ballot to make it known to the administration that they want to see something done. In the end, it comes down to the administrators doing something and the current board was already told that BU was not going to tackle the issue this year because apparently next year they are going into major efforts to promote and enhance the Bradley image which means that changing the Braves name would be absolutely id1otic. I'll keep looking for the source that I read that at and if I find it, I'll post it. But this was just another useless vote that only 1500 students voted on and 1500 out of 6000 (including graduate students) is not even close to being a majority which wouldn't have mattered anyways.

I'm ok with changing the mascot or rather actually having a mascot. But definitely need to keep the name Braves.
