    I don't know, I just thought the NCAA could opt out after this year. I didn't know it meant they had to expand with another network. I really don't know, I could be wrong.

      No, they can switch networks without changing the field. They can do 65 on ESPN if they want.

      But the whole point is to opt out of the current contract so that they could write a new contract with the 96-team field. They could theoretically opt out of the current contract and sign a new contract based on a 65-team field.
