In case anyone did not see, there was a letter published in today's Peoria Journal Star sports section from the Eddren McCain family thanking Bradley for all that they did for Eddren. It confirms Coach Les' side of the story about Eddren's decision to leave Bradley, and acknowledges some of the hardship that Eddren has gone through.
Here is the letter-
Thank you, Bradley, for accepting Eddren
The McCain family acknowledges a heartfelt thanks to Bradley University for their acceptance of Eddren into their university and athletic program.
When Eddren arrived at Bradley University in June of 2008, he was a gentle soul, privately trying to figure out how to deal with the joy of the start of his future academic success without the support of his mother, who had died tragically a year earlier in his junior year of high school.
His mother, who was Eddren's biggest fan, died in an automobile accident on her way to see him in a championship basketball game. During that game, Eddren, voted the most valuable player, searched the crowds trying to see the proud expression on his mother's face, but she was not to be found. His father had already succumbed to cancer eight months prior to this.
This courageous young man continued to forge on, finished out his senior year of high school and strived to continue his life in college and play the game that he loved so much.
The joint family decision for Eddren McCain's transfer from Bradley University was made during the basketball season after receiving his latest injury. Eddren McCain has been successful during his tenure at Bradley and he will complete his spring semester. Although he has made a few mistakes at Bradley he has acknowledged the need for and is receiving counseling that will enable him to continue on with his personal, academic and athletic goals while being close to his family.
Eddren McCain and his family would like to thank Bradley University's administration, Coach Les and the community of Peoria for the extended support that they have given him during his stay at Bradley.
