  • Bob Huggins article

Here's an interesting article about Bob Huggins from New Republic magazine. This was discussed on the Score afternoon show yesterday. It basically says that while other coaches try to be more than they really are, Huggins doesn't pretend he is anymore than a college basketball coach. Good or bad, at least I appreciate his honesty even though I feel he should try to improve his player's graduation rate.

As an interesting side note, one of the two afternoon hosts on the Score is a Duke grad who can't stand Coach K. He feels the ego that stems from Coach K has led to his "God like" status in the form of schools on campus named after him and his involvement in other areas away from coaching. Again, I don't completely agree with the host's assessment of Coach K, but again it's interesting to hear different opinions from unique perspectives.

Bobby Huggins better represents college basketball than Coach K. Mike Krzyzewski likes to boast that he’s “a leader who happens to coach basketball.” But it may be more accurate to say that he’s a corporate pitchman who happens to be a leader who happens to coach basketball. Turn on your television, especially in March, and there’s a good chance you’ll see Coach K hawking everything from State Far...

Good article. It's amazing to me the different styles coaches can bring to the game and still be successful. Bottom line, getting the best players, keeping them motivated and giving them a system in which they can flourish.

K seems like such a stuffed shirt. Huggins more laid back.

What I wonder most of all, if K had to develop a new program, would he be as successful as Huggins has been, over and over(?)

    I kinda doubt it.
