I can think of a few of our posters here that should be nominated or that should apply. They seem to think they know more than Les anyway.

So I wonder if they are required to wait until the 16th at the earliest to hire someone or if they find someone they want can they hire before that? I was hoping we would have an assistant in place by the 14th I think. (Signing Day)

I am pretty sure that BU requires a job to be advertised for two weeks before it is filled. If they find someone they want, they would have to hold off on the official hire until the 16th.

I was going to say this does not sound too good. But you're right that they may be required to post the job even if they already have someone ready to go.

They may do that, but those are self-imposed rules and could easily be ignored if they choose. I'm not saying they will, but BU is under no actual obligation to wait the two weeks.

ampkillip you are 100% correct. BU is a private institution and has zero obligations by law. I'm sure though that there is some bureaucratic HR person spouting out that that we need to follow some self imposed rule when in fact we do not. I do hope that they look wide and low for the best fit regardless.

You are 100% incorrect. There are many employment laws that Bradley must comply with. You can learn more about these laws here: http://www.eeoc.gov/facts/qanda.html

Since the school does not want to discriminate (due to law and its own policy), advertising is one way for the school to show it gave notice to all individuals about the position.

If the right candidate is identified before April 16, you won't hear about it until the 2 week window is closed.

And none of those come remotely close to requiring a two week window... BU can take as long or as short as they please. Why would BU be different than any other college who hires a coach right away?
