In what appears to be a pretty significant snub of Jereme Richmond & Meyers Leonard...
both of whom carried their respective teams to the State Title games,
it was Rayvonte Rice who is awarded the 2009-2010 Gatorade Illinois Boys Basketball Player of the Year

I suspect the people who award the Gatorade award have never seen any of the candidates..
according to the Gatorade web site, the selection is done by..
"ESPN RISE, the multimedia high school division of ESPN"
Find the college football rankings for the class of 2024 on ESPN, including full Class, Juco and Player rankings.
so you're talking about a bunch of people in Bristol,Connecticut who call themselves experts in high school basketball.
these are the same people who rate Donivine Stewart a "40", while rating Illinois' Stan Simpson (who's never played & is rumored to be leaving UIUC after two years on the bench) at an "89"!!
Yeah it does, but maybe they have watched the games and don't have that Northern bias...
Anyone who has watched their games would certainly come away much more impressed with Rice than Richmond.
Finally an award goes to someone that makes sense. Drake is gonna love Rice and BW will have his hands full of Richmond. Hope Richmond works out for BW but my money says BW will have problems with JR. I have seen both several times over the last couple years and I'd take Rice anyday.
Can anyone imagine just how good Illinois is going to be next season with the seven footer coming in and Richmond too and the experience coming back. I say top ten all year

Seems like this is what everyone was saying last year when they had Bertrand, Paul, Richardson, and Simpson coming in with most of their player rotation returning from the previous year. How did that turn out?

Well I can be negative about Illinois also. I think they will be good. I don't like Richmond at all though. If you are going on what they did and not potential, I think Rice is a much better choice.

I hope this is another April Fools joke...
Leonard is not ready by any means and would be pushed around by anyone close to his size as he was pushed pretty good by 6'6" and below Manual players...
Like I said about Richmond, he never showed me he could score outside 5 feet...

If Bill Cole and Nick Smith got together and reproduced, Nick would give birth to Myers Leonard. Hot headed, 7 foot tall, no post game(its easy to get your points over the 6-3 guys in class A southern illinois), lanky, and will get eaten alive by D1 competition.
