    I found this funny....

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

I can't imagine how this will end well for the depaul AD. I can't imagine a bigname coach wanting that job.

I don't even know if a guy like Brian Gregory would take it, seeing as how he just turned down Iowa. And he's not great.

Maybe a top assistant from Duke? An overreach from a midmajor?

      I agree.
But it will not be a Duke assistant. History has shown that Coach K's assistants are highly selective when they choose to leave Duke, and I don't see DePaul being a job that any of them would leave fo.
They are aslo paid well enough that they don't need the higher salary that a head job would pay.
Chris Collins and Steve Wojciechowski have been mentioned for a lot of jobs, but have never taken any of them.
The only assistant to leave in recent memory for a head job, Johnny Dawkins, turned down a number of good offers and is now struggling at Stanford.

Collins would be the one I could see. But I don't know if that would be a big enough hire, even with the Chicago ties, to make DePaul fans (if there are any left) happy.

Big mistake to let it get out that they wanted Howland, Dixon, etc. Now whoever the hire is will probably be a tremendous letdown right from the beginning.

I think Gregory would be great there if they could get him. I know he isn't the big name they want. He is a good coach with a local background though.

Coach K was talking about his assistants on Dan Patrick Radio. DP asked him about who would replace him and he said he would not be naming his own replacement.

I think Wojo and Collins are waiting it out

I actually spoke last night with someone who was a candidate for the DePaul job while I was out of town at an event....he says he has no idea who they're going to hire...

A new premium scout.com article says that DePaul is patiently waiting and then will break the bank to try to land Butler's Brad Stevens..
The article also hints that Stevens was one of their top targets all along, and Butler's really late run into April unfortunately has delayed their hiring plans...
                  Here's the problem, though..........
had Butler's season ended a couple weeks ago, then $1.5 million would have easily scooped up Stevens, but now..with Butler's run to the Final game..
Stevens can sit back and let the bidding begin...because not just DePaul, but also other schools will bid the going price up over $2 mil...
Oregon has that kind of money, but other rumors might have Tubby going to Oregon and then opening up Minnesota, and there could yet be other spots open...

I really hope Stevens doesn't leave quite yet. He isn't losing much next year, and maybe Butler could parlay some of the extra revenue generated into a bigger contract for Stevens. The fact he is from Indiana and Butler is the only place he has ever coached (collegiately) have to at least help somewhat in the effort to keep him.

                      He won't.

He'll have a new long and large contract from Butler following the season.

BTW Kaplan has already said the both Drew and Stevens have relayed to Depaul that they have no interest (shocking I know)

all this may mean is that...
"I wanna hear a bigger offer before I have interest"

I can recall a certain Valley coach who worked a nice raise and extension and said he had no interest in leaving, then a couple weeks later took a Big 12 position...

Money talks but so does family and being rationale about these kind of decisions. Many of these mid-major coach's are looking at what they have (money might not be in the 7 figure range) in security w/ the team they are with (look @ DA and BJ from the MVC) and look at all of the guys who have tried to go to a bigger program only to get fired 3 years later before he could even get his own players into the program (Lickliter to be specific) I have a feeling that BS is looking at the program he has and thinking I can stay here for a long time or go to DePaul and be gone in 3 or 4 years. I am not saying that BS or even BG are not good coaches but rather DePaul is playing outside of their league.
Maybe these guys leave for the right program but that isn't DePaul

Butler's apparel licensing total for this fiscal year will be over 400k greater than last year (CNBC Rovell) by itself; Butler is making a ton of money. Butler is going to have the resources to offer a contract that is in many ways similar to the one Mark Few enjoys at Gonzaga. The ballgame has changed, there is nothing comparable from a business prospective as it relates to Butler basketball.

I agree, good realty check, bbnut. Stevens is a Indiana native, has family there, I believe he has kids and their in school, has a good home in a great city and Butler will come to the plate with a large wage increase, long term contract, with increases/ benie's through out. Not to mention what he has coming back next year and what this will do for Butler's recruiting in the further I believe they just got a commitment from a big name kid from Illinois and Indiana is one of the top BB talent places in the country.
The OLD SAYing, Money Talks and BS Walks, well this is becoming just that for some coach's in college BB, A OLD SAYing
