It had been previously reported that Southern Indiana's Jamar Smith was selected as the D-II Player of the Year...
The PJS reported this as did other sites...
But this is only half the story....
The award won by Jamar was as selected by Basketball Times...a basketball magazine...
and it's a nice honor, but it is NOT the official Player of the Year which is selected under the NCAA D-II guidelines by the D-I SID's........
That's like ignoring who was given the Cy Young Award but then reporting about the guy Baseball Times magazine picked as the top pitcher!
In reality, the official TOP player in Division II basketball as selected by the NCAA D-II
and their sponsor, Daktronics, is not Jamar Smith.
The official D-II Player of the Year is Stephen Dennis of Kutztown University - the leading scorer (26.6) in Division II
Officially, Jamar Smith was 2nd team Division II All-America.
