New Iowa coach Fran McCaffery is starting right where Todd Lickliter did...

he is trying to restock right away by bringing in mid-major caliber kids...

He is helping one of his incoming recruits that was headed to Siena (having beaten out Drexel & VCU) get a release there, then come to Iowa...
wow, this'll sure impress the Hawkeye fans, getting a kid from Siena that hasn't even played a game yet...

Last I saw the mid-majors did pretty well against the BCS teams in the Tourney so why not?

You go after what you know and have been recruiting. It would be ard press to snag a big time recruit to Iowa in such short notice.

He really has NO choice this year. He was geared toward recruiting "mid-major level" kids thinking he was staying at Siena and now he is at a BCS late in the signing period with no BCS-types in his pipeline.

I suspect he will change his style after he has time to build relationships and his BCS-caliber player "database".

New Iowa coach Fran McCaffery is "burning up the recruiting trail"-
He just offered a skinny 6-9 French kid from Connecticut..

plus he's offered cody Zeller and about a dozen other big men.......

also -- rumor of Tracy Webster to go to Iowa as assistant and get some good recruits out of Chicago...
including supposedly a PG that was waiting just to see if Webster was retained at DePaul..but now he is not...

Rough day yesterday for Iowa, lost their 2nd best recruit Cody Larson to Florida.

I have not read one single thing that makes me believe that Larson will be anything more than a 2-3 year project at a talented, high-level BCS school...which is why Iowa made so much sense. He would have gotten immediate playing time out of necessity and had a chance to be one of the better players on the team. I bet he gets lost in the mix at Florida.

there was once a time that big man Cody Larson was even mentioned by some Bradley fans...
but his college career has gone from the trash heap to the garbage dumpster...

he started at iowa - was quite troubled there then booted...and chose to transfer to Florida.....as if he'd be able to find any playing time there...

No sooner did he get there - he was arrested then in trouble repeatedly and still was never any good and got zero playing time...

Now - almost 3 years into his college quest - he leaves Florida and barely knows what playing time feels like......

he will probable go D-II but who knows - he's not been known for sensible decisions...
