There's no cure for a great coach. Izzo outcoached Jacobsen; then again, Izzo outcoaches everyone.

UNI loses 59-52. Missed some big FT's which is very unlike them. Also went I think the last 10 minutes of the game without scoring a field goal. I'm sad they lost for the Valleys sake but it was kinda of nice to see them get a taste of their own medicine.

Well good effort by UNI, but just not quite their night as missed FT's and 3's cost them. A questionable no-call or two towards the end (Michigan St. player looked like he stepped on the line), but kudos to the refs for double checking the clock near the end.
Still, congrats to UNI for a great season, and here's hoping Butler will represent the mid-majors tomorrow!

Johnny Moran and Ali Farokhmanesh were a combined 2-10 from 3pt and 3-13 overall.
Eglseder - just 9 pts & 4 rebs, while their bench (Jake Koch, James, Sonnen, Dunham, O'Rear) got them ONLY 6 pts/6 reb....
and their entire team had only 4 assists on 44 shot attemps!!
not many Panthers had a good game...it's actually surprising they held in there as close as they did for much of the game.

and they don't ever mention the tremendous NCAA Tourney success of teams like Bradley in the 50's and 60's, and Memphis who made it all the way to the Championship game in 1973, and Final Four again in 1985 (but they we no longer in the Valley then), and Wichita State's success in the 60's when they lost in the Final Four to UCLA...
..or that even Royce's Sycamores in 2001 were knocking on the door of the Sweet Sixteen but lost to Gonzaga...
Almost every year or two the Valley has a competetive member that makes some noise in the NCAA save for a little stretch in the early 2000's then the past two years when a few Valley members scheduled so incredibly softly and weren't given at large bids as a result...

The graphic says that it is the 1st time a conf. tourney champ has made it to the Sweet 16 since '79. But the talking heads keep making it sound like this is the 1st team since '79 to make it this far.
I like Izzo, but I may have to cheer for Tenn. tomorrow just because of the jerk behind us last night yelling "Cinderalla is done, its all over, you're a joke...man KU isn't up to MSU's ability cause we handled UNI..." made me want to puke! Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

A.Koch getting into foul trouble hurt UNI, I know UNI plays their bench players a lot of minutes but I thought that they played way too many minutes against a team of Mich.St"s caliber, O"Rear was no factor offensively which kept UNI"s guards from getting good 3 point looks or shots which is why they shot so poorly, I just think in a game this big you need to play your starters more minutes or you will come up short.

MVC Marketing and Publicity
Like many of us, I was apalled at the total lack of knowledge of the NCAA announcers regarding past MVC successes in the tournament---Seemed like they were seeking some kind of "Cinderella Conference" story line.
Bradley, Wichita, Drake, Ind. St., etc., etc. were never mentioned----like this was the first time the MVC had ever done well in the NCAAs.
I would put much of the blame for this on the MVC office and Commissioner for a very poor or non-exixtant national marketing and publicity effort.
Simply stated, the national media is obviously not aware of MVC successes, they don't know much about the conference, The media people who were around when the past successes happened have been long gone and now there are new announcers, writers, etc.
The MVC commissioner needs to get off the dime and realize that he needs a "lights out" marketing/publicity campaign focused on the media and others.
