  • Rumor- Gregg Marshall to Iowa?

Both Andy Katz of ESPN and Seth Davis of SI.com are verifying this- Gregg Marshall, along with Utah's Jim Boylan, are 2 finalists for the Iowa job.

Gregg Marshall would be an outstanding hire for the Iowa basketball program, BUT I hope they give him a bit more leeway than they gave Lickliter as that program is kind of in shambles...

If I am Iowa, there are a couple players from Wichita State's roster I wouldn't mind him bringing along as well...

Murry, Stutz, and Williams would look nice in Hawkeye unis...(and out of the Valley)

Interesting-Just last night I heard Brian Gregory's name (the coach BU should have got but then he kind of laughed at our facilities & salary pkg) associated w/ the Iowa job-of course his name can't come out until after they are done playing.
His name was linked because of his strong B10 connections. Don't know if that was just some announcer spoutting off or if there was substance to it.

            My guess...

They don't want to wait to interview a guy who's team is still playing...

Recruiting wise, they need to get out and get players yesterday...

Once again, would've loved to have Gregory...IF we had him, I can imagine it'd be us talking about back to back conference titles and not UNI...

Just look at where Dayton was before him and now with him...and he's had to compete with resurgent programs like Temple, Rhode Island, and SLU, not to mention the always great Xavier...

Would LOVE Gregory but he is likely not in the running.

He is a Tom Izzo disciple and has long been thought to be the eventual heir to the MSU "throne."

Izzo went off on Iowa in an interview last week, claiming that Lick was let go prematurely and it is widely thought that he was speaking directly to Gregory.

They mentioned the fact of BG being the eventual heir to TI but also mentioned he won't stay at Dayton that long. The trane of thought about BG is he stays in the midwest and when TI decides to step away which could be anytime but also could be 10-15 years down the road that the job his BG for the takeing. That would be the one reason he would probably only take a "sure thing" type job-that could leave out both Iowa and Depaul-Of course look at his resume if took one of those and turned it around like he did Dayton.

Here is an article about the Iowa coaching search-
It mentions "Several recent reports said the school might be interested in Northern Iowa coach Dan Jacobson after his team's stellar run to the Sweet 16."
After three years as men's basketball coach at the University of Iowa, Todd Lickliter was fired from the position on March 15.

And Dick Vitale has injected himself into the Iowa coaching search by promoting ESPN collegue Steve Lavin for the job-
The Des Moines Register is the number one source for Des Moines and Iowa breaking, politics, business, agriculture, Iowa sports and entertainment news.

The problem is that Lavin himself doesn't appear to be interested in the job.

Not only is Marshall not a finalist, he's not a candidate. He turned down an invitation to interview.

Besides Iowa being in the Big Ten it is not a basketball destination. I could understand Ben Jacobson because of his roots there but Gregg Marshall would be better to wait it out for a better offer. He has a pretty good returning team next year and they probably will be the favorites to win the MVC next year. MVC coaches can afford to wait it out, believe it or not!

Good news, I want our league to be as good as possible next year.
