  • A Few BU Recruit Possibilities From My Neck of the Woods

Garrett Reeg Oakville High St. Louis, MO 6'7" 220

Joe Cooper, Raytown HS Kansas City, MO 6'10" 220

Christian Kirk (Jr) St. Charles West St. Charles, MO 6'7" 195

Javier Duren (Jr) Oakville High St. Louis, MO 6'4" 195

Dillon Starzl Kearney High Kearney, MO 6'9" 230

Denton Koon (Jr) Liberty High Kansas City, MO 6'6" 190

Just thought I'd post some players I have seen that I think would be great gets for Bradley...

Especially if the Braves could land Reeg this year and then teammate Duren next year....Duren is REALLY good!

OK I was wondering why you had some 6'4" guy.

Also we have to remember that Sean Harris will be a perfect 4/5 guy. He was more known for his rebounding and motor on the court then anything else. I suspect he'll be a rebounding machine type of player at the 4.

I keep up on recruiting, maybe as much as anyone who posts here regularly. I subscribe to a dozen subscription recruiting sites. So I felt I might comment on your post about those recruits.

If anything, I think it proves that recruiting is one of the hardest things a college coach does. It's easy to sign players, even big men. But it's not easy to sign quality players who can make your team better.

Garrett Reeg is a 6'6" post player-

He is rated the #43 best player in Missouri (not very high). And the only offers he has are from Washington University (D3) and some NAIA programs!

There is a reason Jim Les isn't recruiting this kid, and neither are any other D1 coaches.
If Jim Les signed a 6'6" post player who only had offers from NAIA or D3 schools, I suspect SaintLouBrave22 would be among the numerous people here who would immediately deride the move as inadequate, and would ridicule JL and the kid because he is severely undersized and under-talented for a D1 post player. Unless he is a monster on the boards, like Ramon Clemente of Wichita State was and this kid isn't, he would not be someone who could help Bradley.

I won't go into much detail about the others, since I make it a policy to try not to say anything too critical about high school recruits, except to say that Joe Cooper is as skinny as Anthony Thompson and less skilled. After searching several recruiting sites, some who don't even list Joe Cooper, I can't find that he has had any Division I offers either.
And Dillon Starzi is listed in most recruiting site databases, but he is a 1-star or 2-star player who also has not gotten any D1 offers.
It's possible that any of those 2010 kids could someday develop into a decent D1 player, but I doubt anyone here can believe they could help Bradley's inside game immediately or in the near future.

I think the coaches should call Brehm and inquire about Siakam. I may be way off base, but a call can't hurt. Those who say we have no chance need to look back at our efforts on guys like Shumpert, Buycks, etc. We can compete if the situation is right.

Don't worry, Bradley is recruiting him.

              Please

I really think Siakam would be an ideal get for us this year. I couldn't ask for anything more in the post this year. I know most people will disagree with me since he is only 6'7" tall. I think he would be fine to add to the mix with WE,JP,(AT?,) If in the next year or two we get a pure post player he would be an ideal power forward. I think he is a real longshot because he is being recruited by some big schools and I have never heard us mentioned. I just think the fact we have playing time and he is a good student could make us a good fit. I would be as happy as I would if we got Wilkins. This would be a perfect piece.

Some recruiting notes from Brian Stinnette of ChicagoHoops.com-

I did not know that the winner of the 3A Three point shooting contest, and the "King of the Hill" 3-point winner, Joey Miller of Charleston HS, was the son of Eastern Illinois University coach Mike Miller.
Too bad Tyler Les was injured and unable to compete this year.

Joe Cooper is not less skilled than Anthony and plays much more physical, something AT knows nothing about...

Also, what does skinny have to do with anything? Have you seen the Benson kid from Oakland?

He is every bit as skinny as AT, BUT he plays like a MAN!

Also, Garrett Reeg is a player with a lot of upside and FYI, he's getting looks from both Missouri State and UNI, two teams that can judge a heck of a lot better what a talented big is than Bradley certainly has.

OK, we can differ on our assessment of high school talent. But let's see if any of these kids have an impact with a D1 school next year.
BTW- I am going by reports from recruiting sites, since I haven't seen any of the kids you listed. Anthony Thompson was rated a 3-star and a 4-star recruit by some reliable sites, and he did have multiple other D1 offers. Joe Cooper does not have any D1 offers reported, and the best I can find is that he is rated 2-stars.
Also- this site says he is not going to be a qualifier, will go to junior college.-

I think what most fans want (and what I believe our coaches are looking for) is to land a big who will play and contribute next season. That's a lot harder to find.

Ok, but based on our combined expertise, do you believe thats even possible at the late signing period?

Wouldn't we have to hope a gem somehow falls into our lap?

I mean getting good guards is one thing because the ones we have got are good, BUT that being said, they're 1000x easier than finding a capable big that is able to compete immediately...

Yes, but it takes hard work and creativity. I believe we'll be hearing good news about it soon.

I hope so, but I really want Siakam...

What do you think the chances are we land him?

I would be surprised for a couple reasons - but nobody knows for sure...

First - of all the dozens of stories and articles about him, I haven't seen Bradley mentioned and yet have seen many other and bigger schools (U of I)

second- the kid has gotten enough hype that what I read into this is he and his "handlers" already have a mind that he is BCS-material, it's pretty rare once a kid get that hype that he lands at a mid-major...

so -- tell me why you think BU DOES have a chance other than we always at least have a chance until the "ink is dry" or whatever...

Here's a good MO Sports site to look at for players:

                              http://mosports.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1065589

                              T-

I have heard Bradley mentioned in the past, and it seems like all the schools that are being mentioned are just like with Wilkins and Indiana in that none have any scholies remaining...

Seems he would fit our style pretty well AND we have that great education he is looking for.
