A Midmajor Study of Recruiting

Interesting article. basically it suggests that midmajors will never get the great players, because the big schools will always identify them and sign them. Midmajors simply need to get lucky, take chances, look for the atypical recurits, and hope the unathletic kids develop.

Sounds pretty similiar to what I said yesterday...
Mids need to develop their talent...
That being said, this NCAA tournament has proven that IF the mids can develop the talent and receive superior coaching, they can beat those considered much more talented and more highly recruited...
As far as I can see now, Jacobsen has outcoached two teams that had supposedly superior talent and superior and more veteran coaches in Kruger and Self...
Tells me all I need to know about the development of their players and his coaching ability.

Yes, he in fact did exactly that against both Self and Dixon, who after watching the talent (suspect) from Pitt, I feel is one of the better D-1 coaches...
Anyways, just got done listening to a Randy Bennett interview and there was a specific portion that he talked about Omar Samhan. They asked what drew him to Omar considering many were concerned about his weight and his ability out of high school...
He said three things stood out, and maybe Bradley should consider them while scouting players:
1 - Leadership ability
2 - Mental toughness
3 - Great hands in the post
These next items are ONLY my opinion, feel free to not correct me, but offer yours on the 3 criteria....
I look at only Sammy, Dodie, and DSE having #1 currently
#2 limits to Sammy, DSE, Jake, Dodie, and Taylor (at times)
#3 Taylor and thats it
**Also, remember I am not including JP in there as he redshirted and it'd be hard pressed to gauge where he's at**

Taylor and DSE are great finishers in traffic! That is something I'd like to see WE improve on!
TB and EM are better then average rebounders for their size, DSE is not to bad either. TB could be great at rebounding if he played at full speed the whole game."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

I think Will seems like the kind of kid who would work super hard to get better and stronger for next year. If he gets up to double digit points and 6-7 boards per game we could be very good. Coupled with a contribution from JP and AT in the post, that position might be alright. And if that position is at least solid then the sky is the limit for next year's team.
6'9 isn't overly short for a center on a good mid major team, just look at Matt Howard at 6'8. Improving Strength and finishing ability along with fine tuning his mid range shot could make WE a very nice Center for us.

That was the one great game I believe Will had...
They need to show him that tape over and over again and hope something clicks.

Which is why it has been so frustrating that he hasn't been able to come close to replicating those two weeks of success, or, capitalize on the success the program had in the NCAA Tournament and participation in the NIT the following year.
Hopefully JL's latest recruits/recruiting, with our assumption he can develop players and coach them successfully, produces results.BUilding for the Future
