Thus, even if someone nominates Vershaw for an asst. spot, I think it just isn't likely to happen...
same state different name. Dick Bennett went from NAIA UW stevens point to the tournament with UW Green Bay to the final four with UW Madison in 2000 and the NCAA tournament with WSU Pullman.

Also created the defensive system that Schaumburg High School used to beat Eddy Curry and Thornridge with former SIU guard Tony Young guarding Curry.

Back to the thread what about Ernie Kent as a primary recruiter. Was able to get a bunch of Detroit/Chicago kids. Graduated lots of kids at Oregon. Just a not so realistic thought

      Mark Macon?
The fact that he was assistant coach and was part of the coaching staff that presided over Binghamton
during the worst college athletic scandal since Dave Bliss doesn't bother you??

Binghamton University academic reputation "compromised" by scandal

Of all the D-I assistants available, I kinda think our people will shy away from this guy..

Mark Macon was appointed interim head coach at Binghamton for a reason. He is the only coach (outside of Broadus who has not resigned since being suspended) remaining from the previous regime and has not been implicated in any aspect of the university's investigation.

Is there guilt by association there? Sure. But he is still there (for the moment) because he was outside the loop in what transpired there. I doubt they retain him, because he will forever be linked to the previous regime.

He took a joke of a DI roster and won 13 games without participating in a conference tournament.

I'm also a huge John Chaney fan, of which Macon is a product.

If some sort of disciplinary statement is announced if Macon is not retained, then I would agree. But for now there is no evidence to cause concern.

What about Chad O'Donnell asst at UAlbany...We have 4 scholarship players from IL (Sammy, Dodie, Prosser, and Dyricus) and Albany has three in Mike Black (all freshman finished 2nd in FOY), Derek Tartt, and Jake Lindfors (Albany beat ISU on him I think he'd be in with the fans from the get go)...I think that is kind of sad a college from upstate NY has almost as many IL kids as we do...They also have 2011 guard Derrick Marks from Plainfield committed to Albany as well...

Apparently has strong ties in Iowa was on Doug McDermott HARD before he blew up even took a visit to Albany had an offer the whole nine yards...Albany also has 6-10 RS Fr. John Puk who is apparently a late bloomer and O'Donnell was the lead man on him even got him to pay his way year 1...

Add his East Coast flavor as well...I think he could be a good hire has been around for a while but still young!

I threw Wainright out there simply because he has been in Chicago coaching for a long time, has head coaching experience and I believe him and Les have a relationship.

The bottom line with this is JL better, if he is hiring the person, make the right call and be a person he is willing to listen too (both good and bad) and is someone he trusts to make game decisions and/or suggestions. Call it either arrogance or lack of confidence but watching JL in the last few seasons he appears to do all game management on his own.

I am not sure, right now today, recruiting is as important as a guy who will be a strong leader in practices and on game day. Jim Les, I guarantee is a fantastic recruiter (seller), even though we have not signed that 4 star he has atleast gotten a few on to campus and has gotten in the front door. Maybe that name assistant will help in closing the sale, so to speak. But he needs a leader, an experienced leader in Division 1 basketball as his 1st assistant.

Personally, I believe that if Bradley does not show marked improvement in 2011 this likely will be the last hire Jim Les makes at Bradley.

I like Ernie Kent and I believe someone will pick him up as soon as he is ready for HC nothing less. I still do not know what really happened to his program so quick or is Oregon, because of the football success, Nike ties and believing they are a top destination being a little too impatient.

here are the rosters all the way back to 2004 when he started at Niagara..
only one player in that entire interval (and not even a regular starter) has any connection to the midwest or Illinois, and it's a kid that was NOT recruited out of high school by Niagara but instead ended up at a juco in California where he then went to Niagara...
So -seriously - he might have fine qualities, but all I have read for years is how we need an assistant that has STRONG connections in Chicago and the midwest and can land some of the talent we're missing....and I simply do not see where this guy nor Niagara have had a single kid from the recruiting areas we need to get stronger in...

Perhaps you know that Cephas Oglesby chose Towson (seriously - TOWSON!!) over the BU offer because he preferred to stay out east..

and Juvonte Reddic just chose VCU over a solid offer from Bradley because he preferred to stay out east...

so I really don't think we are gonna get much out there and maybe ought to concentrate on a more reliable area like the midwest.
And I am sure we won't get much if anything from the Niagara area....
personally I'd prefer an assistant with strong connections here in the midwest..

Hey - for eight stinking YEARS - people have whined about getting a Chicaco Public League kid or any kid out of Chicago proper..
WELL WE JUST GOT ONE... my gosh, it seems nobody's even noticed - and we instantly start seeing requests to get an assistant from out east to give us more recruiting presence out there!!
So I am convinced nothing short of landing LeBron James is ever gonna make the so called BU fan base happy....

..and last comment on the Binghamton situation...you can believe whatever you choose...but there was so much sleaze going at Binghamton (read that 6-page link)...that one can only conclude Macon HAD TO KNOW about it, or if he didn't he had to be brain dead...
If that's guilt by association to you, then so be it...but I wouldn't want Dave Bliss' assistants from Baylor either.

I for one have been saying we need to get Chicago area players and very happy that we landed one, I also want a strong recruiter from the mid-west because there is so much talent in this area it makes me sick everytime I hear starting lineups being announced with players from this area that are spread out all over the country, we have a great college basketball atmosphere here in Peoria and should be getting more of the good mid-western players.
I see us as having a great nucleus of players returning that is 2 pieces short of dominating the league.( a Wilkens plus a 6-8 or 6-9 250lb. center)

                    Loren Jackson?

I didn't want to start a brand new thread just to ask a question. I don't think this is an assistant candidate. I am not sure though. What is the story on Loren Jackson? He was fired at Julian HS what was the reason for that? Is he a potential coach? I know he would have connections, but Boys to Men is kind of a bad name around here. Does anyone know if he is a possibility?

I don't know if he is young or old. I really know nothing about him.

I'd love to see BU get this D3 coach. I've seen him in action and he would make a GREAT #2 D1 coach....................

Tom Palombo, Guilford College, D3 -- Same school that produced ML Carr and World B. Free (though not when Palombo was around.

I've seen this guy coach and he definately has qualities similar to Coach Stowell in coaching/teaching ability. He also can develop big men as he previously had the D3 POY in 2008 (a big man), and will probably have another "Big" as POY this year. He also has some ties to the Midwest. Give him a call Jimmy!

Personally getting a 4 star recruit doesn't do a whole lot of justice...College coaches look at rankings to use as a list/guide of players or at least they should...I mean rankings look good and all and give a little hype to the player and program before they come in, but it's more about finding that talent, building a strong relationship with the perspective recruit and his family or surrounding people, and above all finding the right player for your offensive and defensive schemes who has the chance to succeed the most in what the coach is trying to accompolish...

Check out these 3 star guys they seem to be doing fine at w.e school they choose...
                        Jacob Pullen- Kansas State
                        Chris Wroblewski- Cornell
                        Darrington Hobson- New Mexico
                        Michael Juice Thompson- Northwestern
                        Drew Crawford- Northwestern
                        Brandon Dunson- AZ State
Kellen Thornton- Fordham / Illinois State
                        Jemal Farmer- JUCO/ Arkansas

I would take Luke Dobrich in an assistant's role in a heartbeat, but not in the top assistant/associate head coach role. He would be coming in with qualifications to be a 2nd or 3rd assistant, not a top assistant/associate head coach.

several people have touted Niagara assistant Luke Dobrich for a position at Bradley...

Well, now's the time -- he's packing it in at Niagara and leaving after being promoted to TOP assistant in 2010,
"Associate Head Coach", then followed by a miserable 9-23 season in the MAAC --
