  • Jim Boeheim says "It's not a big gap' between major-conference teams and mid-majors"

"There's no doubt in my mind that yesterday Northern Iowa was better than Kansas."

"The problem with college basketball is there's not a big gap," he said. "Everybody wants
to make it seem like there's a big gap. It's not a big gap."

Uhhh, why is that a problem Jim? I don't see any "problem" here.

I kinda take it that he's calling out those who have the probelm with the smaller guys winning...
I think Jim is standing up for the little guys!

He also wants his guys to know that Butler is good and do not let the mid-major label fool you!

I have always liked Jim Boeheim for some reason. I think he is a good coach, and seems like a good guy. Syracuse is one of the few BCS schools I wouldn't mind see winning it, I picked them in my bracket. I just hope Calipari and Kentucky don't win it for sure. Go Cornell!

Good to hear a BCS coach say something like this, albeit before a game with a very good mid major, but nonetheless. Actually the BCS coaches have realized this for a while, that is why they don't play us especially at home, it is the media that needs to accept it. If the media would accept "mid-majors" as being in the same level it wouldn't "look bad" for a major to lose to one, and maybe they could play us more often cause they wouldn't be in a no-win situation.

I've always thought Boeheim is a jerk, but gotta give him props for this. Way to tell it like it is and be a stand-up guy. Refreshing.

              Same here!

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Maybe I missunderstood what he was saying. When he said "the problem with college basketball is not a big gap", maybe I thought he was implying that he was upset that the BCS teams were not stronger than they are now. But then the next two sentences do indeed sound like he is defending the little guys. So perhaps the first sentence threw me off.
